How many of you miss the classics(Warner Bros.,Disney, MGM, Universal)?

I prefer the classics-Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, Tom & Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, and all the rest These cartoons had more than action and humor; they had heart and soul, something that today's cartoons and anime are lacking.

What do you all think?

A lot of the Tom and Jerry cartoons and MGM cartoons (Droopy, Wolf and Red, Barney Bear, "Happy Harmonies" cartoons by Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising) are still shown on the Boomerang network nightly starting at 7:30 PM EST.

I miss watching Bugs Bunny and all the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons on TV. I have one of the Golden Collection DVD sets, but it's not enough. I plan to buy some of the others when I can afford it.

Like someone else said, these cartoons were shown in movie theaters before a feature presentation. Most of the audience attending the movie theaters at the time were adults, so a lot of the cartoons had more adult humor. Nowadays when we think of adult humor, we think of dirty jokes dealing with degrading certain races/nationalities, genders, or someone's hair color, or jokes consisting of foul language. There was some of that back then, but what was shown in the cartoons is far more tame than what gets circulated around the Internet, or told around the office water cooler/coffee maker in the break room these days. And to think that Turner Broadcasting and other broadcasting companies edited these cartoons to remove all racial jokes or some of the violence.

When it was found out that kids liked the cartoons just as much as the adults, in some cases more than, then the animation studios began making their cartoons more "family-friendly", so that anyone could view it, or "kid-friendly." The older cartoons were suitable for the entire family, but there were some that even then were a bit racy. Most of these are part of the "Censored 11", cartoons created by Warner Brothers that consist of so much racist humor that they have pretty much been banned from public viewing. One of the ones I saw that I really like is "Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarfs".

i admire widely used Studios!! yet ..... that's using fact i admire curler coasters, which i used to be fearful of till now. yet yeah, Magic Kingdom is a robust selection using fact it has alot of calm rides, to no longer point out that one stressful holiday that has a song repeating "that's a small international in spite of everything" lol, yet thats in simple terms solid situations i've got been to every physique of those parks quite much each and every summer season so I do remember widely used being the only with the main intsne rides. And MGM? Tower of Terror is a coarse holiday, and so is Rock N' curler coaster. that's exciting there, however the rides are severe there too. Magic Kingdom is a huge selection =D

The cartoons you cite are ones that were made to be shown in movie theaters as part of an evening's entertainment, and had to amuse not just one segment of the audience but the entire audience. Theatrical cartoons were simply better written and had higher production values than those that were created as made-for-television series.

  • YES!!! I've been complaining about this for eons!! I want a channel that has nothing but our classic cartoons. I flick through the channels wondering what kind of stuff my kid will be watching soon and I don't very much like it. It's portraying girls in low cut jeans and short shirts and all the junk. I WANT MY OLD TOONS BACK!!! Let's rally!!!

very true, nearly all modern cartoons are lacking in nearly every aspect. One of the only modern cartoons that is decent is Ed, Edd, N Eddy(which was made to be like a 40's cartoon)
