Do you find this offensive?

3 boys are sitting around at lunch in school...the first one says.."My Dad scribbles some words on a paper and calls it a poem, he get's 50 dollars for em.."

The second boy says..."That's nothin...My Dad scribbles on a prescription pad and gets 100 dollars for em..."

The 3rd boy says..."I got you all beat, my Dad scribbles on some paper and calls it a sermon and it takes 8 people to collect the money..."

I could see people finding that offensive. But it is just a joke. It is just making a strange comparison in a manner kids would that is the funny part - it is not intended specifically to be negative concerning the ministry. But in this forum where everything offends everyone? Yeah, someone is probably going to flip out at what they would percieve as the implication that the value of the sermon (calling it a scribble) is being diminished. Or that the sermon is not worth the collection, or the sermon is being used to generate the sermon, etc. Of course people in the ministry know that quality sermons do help the collection plate, over time - so are they being "paid" for the sermon? Yes, indirectly, they are. And if their sermons are not filling that collection plate, then that is discussed in their evaluations, just like anyone else. There is a secular side to the ministry, and it does at times make it more like the implication of the joke than it should be. Some ministers will laugh pretty hard when they hear this.

People who are offended by this, are only lashing out because they aren't completely sure of their own religion and can't stand anything that goes against it. The truly faithful will laugh at this, knowing it is just a joke.

Not offensive at all. This, however, might be considered offensive:

Q: What do you do if an epileptic has a seizure in your swimming pool?

A: Throw in your dirty clothes and a box of "Tide".....

NO. We should be able to laugh at ourselves. We take our (everyone) selves to serious most of the time.

Michael K you really don't get it do you... sad.

Doesn't have to be true if enough people believe it to be true, does it? Or sensical in the poets case.

  • That's cute.

I like jokes that I can tell my grandma that will give both of us a chuckle.
