there ARE actual psychiatrists and psychologists who are Christianity based.
I don't think you need to see someone who is in YOUR church.
But someone with a total evolutionary, atheistic world view, will never be able to completely understand your mindset. In fact they may even be condescending to your faith. You need to find a balance between a stern fire and brimstone counselor and a totally humanistic phd.
It would be worth traveling a little distance to go to someone who fits this. Try emailing focus on the family or another ministry and find some real doctors in your area. There IS a happy medium.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor whose major area of study is the brain. They can write prescriptions
A psychologist is not a medical doctor. Their major area of study is behavior/mind. In most states they work with a psychiatrist if prescriptions are needed.
I think a Christian should do every thing possible to find a christian counselor first. if done are available or none in your area are qualified for the problem then by all means get help in other areas.

Psychiatrists are more medical than psychologists, and they can write prescriptions.
And it's a good thing. Would you criticize someone for having their cold treated outside the church? Then you shouldn't criticize people having their mental health treated.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that went on to get a Ph.d in psychology. A psychologist is just a Ph.d only. I would recommend a christian counselor, which may be a MA level counselor. I haven't found many Ph.d's that are christian counselors.

I highly recommend them if you have a medical need to speak to one. Not to do so endangers you, & God would never want that
God wants you in tip top shape. Mentally Physically and spiritually..
