What's the best way to transfer a cake from the baking pan to the plate?

When I bake a cake, I let it cool in the pan in which I baked it and then try to put it on a plate. I always oil the pan. However, sometimes, the cake will break up as I'm trying to transfer from cake to plate. Does anyone have any tricks that will prevent this from happening? I don't bake cakes much, but when I do, I'd like to prevent such mishaps.

    Two tricks that may save you some frustration are grease or oil the pan and then put a piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the pan. Run a knife around the inside of the pan as soon as the cake comes out of the oven. The cake doesn't get stuck to the side of the pan as it cools and cause the center to crack. This is especially important with cheesecakes.

    Before baking lightly grease the pan with either a crisco type shortning or butter and dust with flour. When you take a cake out of the oven it will still cook for a few more minutes until the heat from the hot pan is realeased. This can cause the cake to over cook and dry out causing breakage when you transfer from the pan. To prevent this when removing the cake from the oven gently shake the pan from side to side to free the sides from the pan and gently roll the pan in a circle to free the bottom. Then lay a wire cooling rack or your cake plate on top of the cake pan and turn the pan upside down being sure to hold the edges of the cooling rack or plate as well. Then gently raise the cake pan freeing the cake from the pan. This will prevent the cake from over cooking and drying out while sitting in the hot pan and also speed up the cooling time.

    First grease and flour the pan. Only let cake cool a minute or 2 then put the plate on cake and turn upside down. Should come out perfect every time.

    well best thing to do is get a pan where its like a flat plate and there's a band around it that u can take off. after baking u can just take the band off and use the bottom of the baking pan as a plate but u want to transfer, put a plate of top of it and flip it upside down and then use a another plate and flip it rightside up.

    i crisco and flour the pan...after baking, let it cool in the pan no more than ten minutes...loosen the sides with a spatula...crown the cake (cut off the pointy part in the middle) place the plate upside down over the pan, invert them, and shake the pan gently until the cake slides out...if you haven't over baked it should work every time

    I (as the person above said) would recommend the type of pan with the side band comes off. You may also want to use pam.

    Uhm.......oil or flour the pan, or use wax paper, easy out and clean up!
