Why do you think Twilight is so GREAT?

Tell me why!

Note: I am NOT a Twilight fan nor am I a hater, I just want to see various opinions.

    Honestly?

    I don't.

The first book kept my interest for a while, but it felt like it just dragged on with ceaseless Edward + Bella frolic. Sorry for those who like that, but I prefer action. Shoot first, ask questions over pizza later!

But I can tell you my opinion on why a lot of people do think it's so great. It's about an ordinary, everyday girl with not a lot of self-confidence who discovers something that makes her special beyond anything she could have dreamed of. Every ordinary, everyday girl, no matter what age, has a degree of lacking self-confidence, and most if not all want to be able to feel special, like there's something that sets them apart from every other ordinary girl and destines them for great things, whether it's awesome powers or the perfect guy.

Another reason is the simplicity of the writing. It drags a lot, but it's written in a way that the majority of the population can relate too, which may be why some people find the writing to be lacking. The way Meyers writes it is believable enough for those who read it, and that's all they want.

But the biggest reason in my opinion is Edward. 90% of the Twilight fans I've spoken too have told me that pretty much the only reason they love the series is because of Edward. What girl doesn't want the perfect guy (even though I have my own opinion about him that differs from the norm)?

It's all psychology and a little of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, mixed in with the formula for the dreams of many--to be swept off their feet into something exciting and new, to feel special and reach a level of self-realization that rises above the monotony of life.

Of course, I'm just over analyzing things. But it's more fun than doing chemistry homework.

I think the appeal of this series is in the forbiddeness of it- everyone wants what they can't have. In the case of these stories, Edward wants Bella who is human, and she wants him back. They get what they want but not without all the other trials and tribulations of relationships- theirs are just a bit amplified. I really liked Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse were decent, kind of felt like they were just filling a void, and Breaking Dawn was only good in the first part (Book one in Bella's perspective)- the rest of it felt rushed.

All in all, as I said, its just cause people want what they can't have.

I like it because it really gets you hooked. My friends all have read Twilight and they all loved it. I didn't think I would like it but I decided to get it and it is wonderful. I'm not half way through it but for me it's one of those books I can't put down. I'm not positive it's my FAVORITE book but I like the love between Bella and Edward and it's really interesting to read. Like I'm so anxious to see what happens next. Stephenie Meyer writes it with a lot of suspense and that's why I like it.
