Paranormalists....is there anything you DON'T believe in?
I've been popping in to this board for a couple months now, and my impression is that if you believe in one weird thing, you seem to be equally accepting of all weird things.
I've noticed this phenomena in my usual hangout in Alternative Medicine, but NOT in Religion and Spirituality. (the religious seem to only believe deeply in the weird things about their specific deity, but not bigfoot or PK)

Tom E. so why don't you believe in some "fringe" things, but yet you believe in God/ghosts and the afterlife which have equal evidence to the fringe beliefs you deny?
And don't threaten me with eternal damnation..you have no special knowledge of what happens after your death.

I'm not really a "paranormalist" but I'm open to the possibility of another dimension in the universe...based on the fact that there's still so much we don't know.
I don't know about believing in "all weird things".... Can't speak for everyone else. I mean, if you ask me about bigfoot, the first thing I'd do is look for evidence of it. Bigfoot, fairies, and elves are just really specific just like Santa Clause, the Christian God, and the pink unicorn...they all do specific things that you'd have to find eveidence for each and every creed they made, scripture, book, saying, magical powers and whatnot.
On the other hand, if we're talking abt "other entities" or a "spirit world" it is *more* possible because it's less specific. I think it's a more honest approach u know? We just don't know until we've experienced or seen something out of the ordinary w/ our own eyes.

Good question. :)
Firstly, I would never have called myself a "paranormalist" but I have a feeling I fall into the category of people you are referring to.
I do believe more in radical theories then some other people do, however I do NOT believe because of blind faith. I do extensive research on my own with a critical mind and of course my own experiences influence my beliefs.
I personally don't lump all paranormal activity together. For example, if I was to say I believe in ghosts, that does not automatically mean I believe in big foot.
On the subjects I haven't researched, its more about my belief in the "possibility", then in the actual fact of their existence. After all I have seen and learned; I have come to the understanding that there is ALOT in this world that we don't know so I choose to look at things with an open mind, and to never discount the possibility.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again--- absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence, and believing in something and accepting the possibility that it may exist are two different things. I mean I've never seen God, but I know he exists, right? It's a matter and a question of faith, and that's a right everyone has. Nobody used to believe in the giant squid, either, till some fisherman pulled one on his boat, so for most us, it's not a question of believing, it's a question of existence, and I think you've filtered out a lot of very valid stories and questions, and jumped to the conclusion that we all believe in everything. Not true.

Well, I believe in a few "weird" things because I've had physical contact with things that technically shouldn't exist. So yeah, my mind is open to the possibilities.
But I don't believe in vampires or werewolves or bigfoot and things like that.

I DON'T believe in Atlantis, Astrology, Lake monsters, Leprechauns, Fairies, and a bunch of fringe stuff. Bigfoot and UFOs are iffy possibilities.Ghosts, God and Survival of consciousness after death are real. Deny them at your own eternal peril.
Edit: The Holy Spirit provides special knowledge...

As far as "ghosts" or "demons" go I do not believe in poltergeist. Specifically when referred to being an energy form of ones own negative energy. If anyone has asked for help and recieved this as an explanation, please email me. I might have a solution for you.

ah.........
Interesting, but I must say that it feels like an insult to my intelligence.
I do agree that some humans fallow trends like a flock of sheep headed to a cliff without asking important questions of the why of it.
I believe that some of us are skeptical about things and we do not fallow trends within our belief systems.
Some of us can think outside of the box (ew I hate that expression, but it says it all)

Great question.
Something paranormalists don't believe in is any sort of science which may contradict the beliefs they hold dear.
In fact a lot of them seem to distrust science and scientists in general, which is kind of ironic since they are happy to use one of the most splendid pieces of technology ever invented to convey those feelings.
I am constantly amazed by what people believe, how do they do it?
