Why can I only see some spirits and not others?

Hi Nikki, weighing in here because we have the same experience. I've seen "ghosts" since I was a kid. Some are seen, some are sensed, some are felt, some are heard, some I smell (perfume or tobacco) and some are all of these together. Sometimes they see me and sometimes they seem to just be in their own little "loop", oblivious to the fact that I see them.

I also see what I call "echoes" of old homes that are no longer there. The field looks empty to anyone else who looks. AND, I've stopped my car to walk over to these a couple of times and found remnants of old foundations.

Despite this, I can't really answer your question. I don't know either - not for sure, but I'll tell you what I think, based my own experiences.

I think that "ghosts" are the temporarily earthbound - not crossed over, or have something to resolve before they choose to leave - they tend to be the ones just doing their own thing - easily visible. I call the other ones (and these tend to be chattier and engage more of my senses) "spirits" for lack of a better word and think that maybe they are able to move back and forth between the veil as they see fit. Not all are good, but not many are truly bad.

I also see them more clearly if I am in an open state, not anxious or in a hurry or concentrating hard on something. Often when I have a cold or my immune system is run down, I see them more and more comes through whether I want it to or not.

I almost always sense them before I see them and sometimes, I think they just don't want to be seen.

As I said, these aren't definitive answers to your question, but sometimes just by sharing, we can get a new perspective on it for ourselves. Hope this helps.

Perhaps there is a reason. Medium Mary Ann Winkowski has found that she can only see earthbound spirits - the spirits of those who have not yet crossed over to the next plane. However, medium James Van Praagh can see the spirits that have crossed over (yet may pop by for the occasional visit to their loved ones.)

You may want to check out their books. I am currently reading Mary Ann's and find it quite interesting. (And she does say in her book "expect to attend your own funeral".)

Added: Oh, devilish truth makes a good point as well. For spirits to manifest, they must draw certain energies from their surroundings. So if there is not enough of the kind of energy they need, they may only be able to communicate a sound or a smell or a "feeling" to you instead of being able to come through as a full body apparition.

Nikki, I too have seen many ghost -- especially when I was a kid. But of course I could not see them all. This is a tough question Nikki because it can have many instances of why this happened and occurred. 1) Those Ghost could have reached out to you, so you could see them being perceptive enough and that is why they projected to you. Or your intuitive capacity of mind and feeling at certain intervals in your cyclic nature your awareness of the astral/horizontal was heightened for those moments. Or perhaps it is a mixture of both.

I have seen many disincarnate spirits. Many are totally oblivious that they have died -- it can be a very sad reality, people still in churches praising the lord until they can overcome their perspective cage that they have been trapped in.

Well Nikki it seems that some spirit make themselevs known to you. This could be beacuse of your auric make up. Try getting a natal chart done for yourself (astrology chart) and you might be surprised what they reveal. Some people are born with the type of energetic field that would attract spirits to you. Others have the type of energy that actually repels children. That is why it is always wise to get a natal chart for children so that you can prepare yourself for such things.

It could be that you just simply attract some spirits, or at the very least welcome them. Others you are around might have that repelling aura that I mentioned before. Also, it might be that this is a life mission of yours. Many people are able to see those who have crossed and it is a clear sign that they are meant to do. We all have skills that are for us to help humanity. :)

Are they mostly spirits you know? Maybe they're just checking up on you. I don't see them as a threat, as long as they're not harmful.

The house I moved into had a father who passed away. I'm not sure if he died in the house or what, but we hear breathing, footsteps in the hallways and knocks on the doors, but we don't see anything. I do know that in their hallway closet the whole family wrote their names down inside and how long they lived there, but we refuse to paint over it just in case.

Fear stops a lot of ppl from seeing things.

Some people aren't ready to see the truth.

If some people can't realize or see the truth about themselves and that they live their lives in denial, it would be harder for them to even see a ghost because they are in total denial.

I'm sure the children see them too.

I am like you I can see ghosts as well. Some have moved on already and your job is to help the ones who haven't. YOU HAVE A GREAT GIFT!!!! Basicly why others can't see them is because there brain is more open to a 6th sense. USE YOUR GIFT FOR GOOD!!!

i too see spirits and experience the same thing... its like they choose who to let see them... its like.. draining on their energy to let people see them or something... this is based on my research and conclusions, and also my mom and her psychic friend...

my mom also can see spirits... and sometimes my mom would ask us "do you see that person there?" sometimes we do (its human) and someitmes we dont (spirit) but the strange thing is when we dont, how come i dont see them when she does and we both can see spirits?

but have you had an experience when 2 people have seen the same ghost? i've had once before and that feeling is quite spectacular... me and a friend who could see were walking in a big group of about 20 people, i was in front, she was at the back... at the foot of a staircase in a garden i saw a spirit looking at us, and i kept silent for a week. until i got he chance to talk to her in private, i asked her if she saw anything that day... she immediately exclaimed what she saw... it was sort of a special feeling that we saw the same ghost...

anyways, to Shadow Storm, we chinese have a similar believe of the aura thing and how you attract or repel certain aspects in life... it is the "8 characters" that we beleve the air/energy/aura/yin yang that is present for the earth at the very poiint in time that you are born and breath your first breath affects the kind of life you get... this explains why people born in certain months have similar traits, people born on the same day have similar traits (like how me and a friend excel in music, are introverted, spiritual and have leadership qualities)...

and to AMagikalGirl, about the low immunity thing seeing more spirits, there is also a chinese explaination for this... we chinese believe in the balance of the yin and yang energy, when you are feeling happy or positive you have a higher yang energy, when you are feeling low or depressed or negative (including being sick) you have a higher yin energy and lower yang energy. spirits are naturally yin, and are repelled (dislike) by yang energy. so most probably when fall ill your yin rose and yang dropped , thats why you could see more of them... its something similar to the english's aura believe...

maybe not all are making themselves visible but communicating in other ways via touch, smell and sound. sight is a very fraudulent sense to rely on with spirits.

in way you know if a spirit is bad a lot of times by the smell or cold touch, but they could still look trusting and nice. learn to use the other senses as well and dont worry about seeing them as much physically.

I've had similar experiences, and to be honest, I think it's just that some WANT to be seen, others don't. Other times it could be your frame of mind. I've noticed that if I'm relaxed I can see them more often than if I'm uptight or preoccupied about something.
