Can Powerpoint or Keynote present on one screen and leave my computer free to do other things?

When I use PowerPoint or Keynote (Mac OS X) I'd like to be able to show my presentation on the projector but have additional windows or programs open on my Mac the don't get projected. Can I choose one window that will get beamed to the projector, rather than just mirroring my screen?

    Hi

Microsoft PowerPoint has a command "Slideshow in a Window" that does exactly that.

You'll find it in the Commands section of Customize Menus and Toolbars on the View menu.

  • Hm, I looked at Mac Fixit's link and I don't think it answered your question. I was just searching for Keynote information today and I saw it mentioned that Keynote does not allow for that. But, and this is a big but, it may have been referring to an earlier version.

Keynote has a Presenter View that will allow you to do stuff with the current presentation off of the main screen, but I do not think you can go to another program or even another file.

Apparently PowerPoint's presenter view will let you tab through any open apps or windows while maintaining the slide show on the external monitor/projector.

Maybe I can find the website I read this on and update this post. I realize it's kind of useless without any backup.

EDIT: Jeez, this won't help. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID... It really was the exact thing you are asking about, but I certainly can't follow the thread well enough to tell if either the current Keynote or the current PowerPoint for Mac allows that or not. Maybe you can?
