Just how Deep in This Scandal is McCain?

Senator John McCain's campaign manager was paid more than $30,000 a month for five years as president of an advocacy group set up by the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations, current and former officials say.

That's almost $2 MILLION

several current and former executives of the companies came forward to discuss the role that Rick Davis, Mr. McCain's campaign manager and longtime adviser, played in helping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac beat back regulatory challenges when he served as president of their advocacy group, the Homeownership Alliance, formed in the summer of 2000. Some who came forward were Democrats, but Republicans, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed their descriptions.

"The value that he brought to the relationship was the closeness to Senator McCain and the possibility that Senator McCain was going to run for president again," said Robert McCarson, a former spokesman for Fannie Mae, who said that while he worked there from 2000 to 2002, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac together paid Mr. Davis's firm $35,000 a month. Mr. Davis "didn't really do anything," Mr. McCarson, a Democrat, said.

And how is it that McCain tried to pin all the Problems of Washington on Obama, when he has been up to this the whole time??

Update:

many people site Obama taking $123,000, but that was FROM INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEES, not the company. McCain has taken $196,000 from executives and Lobbyist for the company.

Hi There was the wrong type of deregulation on very important businesses in this country. When you remove the checks and balances installed in some regulations, you are asking for trouble.People in high positions turn their backs on what is going on.Then with all the special interest groups taking over ,you really get all bad things going and the people of this country get left by the wayside with empty pocket books.

If a complete investigation were conducted, and all the facts were known, and the appropriate criminal trials held, and reasonable sentences were handed down... at the end of the day, I suspect we'd have to end the War on Drugs just to make room in federal prisons for all of the guilty parties.

If you persist in trying to pin this all on one party, regardless of which one you think is most to blame, you're behaving according to whatever plans "they" do have.

The fault lies not with one party. The fault lies with the system, which was constructed in concert by both parties.

Read the Constitution, and find where We, the People ever gave them permission to dabble in the housing and mortgage markets. Get back to me on that, okay?

No, one every seems to say anything about his son Andrew McCain who is deep in it so you might want to look into that for more info. Andrew is also involved in the beer business so this money is kept in the family. But he took some money & was being investigater for that & it was in the millions.

I sure wish all this dirt had come out during the primaries. It would have surely plunged his campaign. The Republicans are just ignoring the madness now because he is their only hope.

    This is sad.

The government doesn't loosen up lending restrictions, and they are racist/anti-poor/pro-rich.

The do loosen it up, everything goes haywire, and now there's a scandal.

    Please make up your minds.

By the way, your source is biased.

Ok, and do you have any clue about how lobbying works or the number of dollars that lobbying costs? $35,000 a month is chicken feed in the lobbying world. I was shocked at how little he was being paid and my first thought is whether he's good enough to be McCain's campaign manager, lol! $35,000 a month, LOL! Besides, I don't think Obama wants to fight the FM/FM fight, lol.

This is hilarious. It's like watching a blind boxer lashing out in all directions, LOL!

P.S. There are alternative energy lobbying firms that get paid tens of millions a year to lobby Pelosi, Ried, Kennedy, etc, etc, etc. Just so you know.

no deeper than Obama whos two top finacial advisors took literally millions running fannie may and who is second on the list of senators recieving money from the failed giants behind only chris dodd. Plus Obama voted against the 2005 act that would have averted this meltdown. so I guess your answer is noone is without culpability here.
