Who knows if its true that giving my 9 month old pup a valuim would put her to sleep long enough to cut her?
nails? She even tries to bite them and can not get them short enough. I bought the pedicure kit for dogs but she's scared to death of it. Now I can't afford to take her to get them professionally done. How do they cut them anyway? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I bought into that pet-i-cruel dremel too. What a freaken waste of money. My pups and dogs are afraid of it. If you really feel the need to trim/cut the nails, buy a nail clipper from a good pet store. Give the pup a bath, wrap her tightly in a bath towel to dry her and immediately get to work on the nails while you are both soaking wet. The warm water softens the nails, so keep her in the bath for as long as possible.
The walking idea works wonders, too. The two of you should run a few blocks twice a day to smooth the nails.
I don't let vet's assistants trim nails. They cut them too short and just say "Oopsy". Seen it, lived it.

Take your dog for daily walks on a rough surface such as the road, then your dogs nails will be shortened in the way that nature intended.
I've found my dog's nails only get unacceptably long when they are not getting much exercise.
If the dog is trying to bite it's own nails it won't be because they are too long it will be because there is something wrong with her feet like an irritation from an alergy or a grass seed.

That would not be a good idea. Where in the world did you hear that from? That is crazy!
It only cost between 5 and 10 dollars at a groomer. If you can't afford that how do you afford vet bills, food, toys...
They cut them with clippers and they know how to deal with dogs that have a fear of it.

You can't afford $5.00 to have a dog groomer cut your dogs nails?
Do not give your dog any human drugs, you could kill her. Take her to a groomer and let them cut her nails. They are used to dealing with difficult dogs. [If she's really a problem they may charge you double though] A professional will be less apt to "quick" her and hurt her. This is money well spent - and not at all expensive.
And you need to work with your dog to get her to let you handle her feet. The reason she is bad with her feet is because you haven't worked with the pup. You need to start working on touching her everywhere on her body, open her mouth, lift her lips, clean her ears ...touch her everywhere and focus on those feet.
Start by massaging her leg, and work down to the feet .... wiggle her toes, do circles on her pads. She needs to have you work with her feet when you are not trying to do anything to them. Foot massages should be pleasurable for her!
You must be relaxed when you are doing it --- you can not force her to submit to you. If you are stressing, then the dog will pick up on it.

I truthfully have a pair comments in this. everybody is acceptable approximately different canines ingredients being greater effective....the severe high quality stuff you won't be in a position to get at Wal-Mart or the food market. that's purely greater effective to your canines. Our doggy eats Nutri source for small breed domestic canines. It got here especially recommended, yet others at here have indexed different sturdy manufacturers too. Now for some own info. Up until we've been given our Puggle doggy, ALL of our canines ate canines nutrients from Wal-Mart. we've an 11 year previous Lab combination that has in no way had any well being issues and has continuously eaten "decrease priced" canines nutrients through fact we did no longer recognize any greater effective and could no longer cope with to pay for the costly stuff. comparable with our 8 year previous Norwegian Elk Hound combination. the cheap stuff hasn't killed them and that they are wholesome and happy. there is one element I truthfully have found out with ALL canines nutrients....the greater low priced that's, the greater you may desire to feed them. heavily, start up watching the realm of the bag the place it lists the recommended quantity to feed. some canines ingredients will say, as an occasion, 5-7 cups an afternoon, the place yet another will say 3-4 cups an afternoon. so which you truthfully are not saving countless money by ability of going with a greater low priced kind. base line.....your canines won't get sick or have issues considering you're feeding him Pedigree, yet he could be greater effective off in case you fed him a bigger high quality canines nutrients.

DO NOT DO THAT!
take her to a groomers or even ask the vet next vist.
try the hard suface walking but if shes a breed that has dew claws that wont help.
if yiu have to do it yourself get someto hold her still and even put a towel over her eyes to help calm her down.

the day you decide to cut her nails, take her out on a walk and give her ample exercise, preferably for 30 minutes to one hour so that she will be too tired to refuse. make sure you know where you are cutting so you dont cut into her Quick otherwise she will feel the pain and will hate it all the more.
make sure that it isnt the allergies that she is trying to lick and bite into in between her paws. if the dog is chewing/licking her paws and scratching her ear often, thats a sign of allergies. you may need to change her food to a more expensive but much better quality food for allergies.

Well it would put your pet to sleep FOREVER !! . Don't self medicate your pet at all, it might seem alot to get nails clipped but gat it done once and after that regular walks will keep them down. Also some groomers are very happy to show you how to maintain nails and you must be shown as you can cut too much and make your pet bleed. Do you have societies like PDSA ??? they will help you

there's an old story about a woman that gives her cat a sleeping pill before a long trip. The cat goes absolutely bonkers and makes the woman's trip hours of living hell.
when she gets to her new place, she calls her vet and confesses what she did. The vet looks up the medication and sees it interacts with cats by making them go crazy, not tranquilizing them.
the woman tells the vet she is glad she gave the cat the pill, because "If I hadn't, who knows HOW bad the cat would have acted!"

Are you mental?
Don't drug a dog. Valium could MURDER the damn dog, and then what?
Take the dog to a professional groomer. They have ways of calming down the dog to clip the nails.
