Funny sound coming from my car (PLEASE help!!!)?
it only happens every now and again. its like a high pitched hum. i thought it was a belt or something, but my husband pushed down on the engine cover and the sound went away temporarily. so we tightened the bolts, but the engine (or whatever it could be) still hums every now and again. any idea what it could be, and what i should do?
it is a 2004 ford focus zx3. my husband spun out and broke a cv joint a while ago, but we got everything taken care of. could that be part of the problem?

I would check the rear end fluid.I drove a van and the hum came from the back and then by the time the shop looked at it the internal workings of the rear end was gone and cost 800 bucks.the gears are rubbing together.Good Luck.
