Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago?

Eight years ago I had an important job with a major international corporation, bought a new car that I paid cash for, made my mortgage payment on a fixed loan I've had for 19 years, had a good savings account, an investment account that was doing fair, went out to dinner about once a month, basically trying to live a normal, responsible life.

Today, I'm unemployed, still have the same car, it's a struggle making my mortgage, my savings is gone, my retirement account has lost almost 35% of its value (today I lost another $4,000), we never go out for anything now, not even to a cheap diner.

We're still responsible citizens and still try to do our best but it's very, very difficult.

No, I'm not better off than 8 years ago.

What about you?

    I'd say yeah I am.

8yrs ago I was in high school, which I very deeply loathed.

Now I'm free as a bird, I can finally follow my dreams & strive to achieve my greatest goals. I don't believe in school/college, I do all my research on my own- which gets me farther than a pathetic school could.

Because of this, I have achieved many things I never thought I could- my manga's have won contests & my art being puplished etc. I'm much happier now than I was 8yrs ago!!! Yet I still dream to travel the world one day...

Certainly. Eight years ago I was trying to commit suicide. These days, whatever financial issues I'm having right now, I'm a hell of a lot better emotionally than I was before.

Eight years ago I was fourteen.

I was better off as a fourteen year old than a twenty two year old.
