  • How to cope with wife disorder>?

My wife is 53 and I'm 68.We've been married 25 years. She's from Mexico and has dual citizenship. About 24 years ago we were rea-rended by a young drunk driver.

My wifes' neck was broken but at the time there wasn't anything the neurosurgeons could do.

Earlier this year, my wife started getting a pins and needles type of feeling in her fingertips and hands. Then it went to her arms. You literally could not touch her arms at all for the pain it caused her. Finally, after several pleas for another MRI they found her spinal cord was constricted to less than half of what it should be in her neck. Simultaneously, she developed fatigue, incontinence, loss of movement in her arms and legs, upper back ache. The referral to a neurologist finally paid off and she was immediately admitted to the hospital. There she was tested for MS, Devic's Syndrome, Wegener's G, lupus, fibromyalgia and a few other disorders. Some tests came back borderline negative, others negative Finally, she had a fusion surgery through the front of the neck to aleviate the swelling of several discs that had ballooned into her spinal column. That was two months ago. I see her every day and it still breaks my heart to see her in this condition. I'm sitting here now trying to watch the Oregon vs Stanford game and I just can't can't concentrate.I keep thinking of my wonderful wife, lying in bed basically 24/7, and my heart breaks and I break down. I don't know what to do. I love her so very much and it pains me to see her like this. I just don't know what to do. We had so many wonderful plans for my retirement and now everything is down the tubes. The greedy brokers on Wall Street wiped out most of my retirement. I just feel so low and down. This is totally opposite of what I normally am...a very positive person. Any advice? How does one cope with such a tragedy? I'm at my wits end.....and very sad and depressed.

  • Laptop Mike Plug-Mono or Stereo type?

-I have a Toshiba A305 S6857 Satellite laptop. I believe the external speaker mini-plug is a stereo type but can anyone tell me if the microphone mini-plug is mono or stereo?

I would like to know because I have to run an audio cable from my Icom 718 SSB marine/ham transceiver phone plug to the mini-mike plug on the laptop so I can receive weather faxes on my Toshiba. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Increasing Buffer Size?

I have a Toshiba Laptop Satellite I bought last Fall. Generally, runs pretty good but I've noticed that if I want to watch a short video that it stops several times during the film. Sometimes it will start again, sometimes it won't. Sometimes the little wheel appears and says, "buffering....". This a real pain.. Sometimes, I can download the video but often times can't as they have these 15 second commercials at the beginning and I just record the commercial and not the program. I've tried watching episodes of National Geograsphic, ABC News, etc and it's getting to be a real pain. Can anyone advise what is wrong? And how I might possibly fix this problem?

    Thanks

  • 2000 Explorer won't idle.....?

Just started my wife's car to warn it up before she goes to work. Normally, it idles rather high since it's cold and rainy this morning but today, it just went down to nothing and died. Just won't idle. It'll start o.k. but doesn't idle at all.

What's the problem? Any suggestions while I wait for daybreak and less rain to check it out?

  • PC vs. Apple- Which one is better for my purposes?

I've always had PC's but once I had the use of an Apple computer. It seemed difficult to operate yet I know many people love them

What are some basic differences between them? Is one actually better than the other in some functions? I want to do some media work (i.e. videos, photo programs, website uploads, etc). Which one would you prefer and why?

  • Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago?

Eight years ago I had an important job with a major international corporation, bought a new car that I paid cash for, made my mortgage payment on a fixed loan I've had for 19 years, had a good savings account, an investment account that was doing fair, went out to dinner about once a month, basically trying to live a normal, responsible life.

Today, I'm unemployed, still have the same car, it's a struggle making my mortgage, my savings is gone, my retirement account has lost almost 35% of its value (today I lost another $4,000), we never go out for anything now, not even to a cheap diner.

We're still responsible citizens and still try to do our best but it's very, very difficult.

No, I'm not better off than 8 years ago.

    What about you?

  • Windows Vista Help...?

Why won't my new Toshiba Laptop pickup my wireless internet connection? I have a Cisco Linksys Wireless & Broadband Router that I've used for years on my old Toshiba Satellite Laptop; never had a problem where ever I was in the house or on the patio. It crashed after 8 hard years so I bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. Everyone tells me it should pick the signal up without a problem. But it doesn't. It's Radar picks up about 4 or 5 other signals that are secured but not mine and it's only three feet away! I even tried the Linksys USB Adaptor and plugged it in to one of the USB ports. I downloaded the new drivers for it. Still nothing.

I'm going crazy trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not the least educated in the Vista software as I used XP before. What steps do I need to allow the new laptop (which says it has wireless built-in, to get my signal.??

If I plug the laptop directly into the router, I get the signal o.k...just not wireless..wifi is on, also.

  • New Laptop-Vista-Connecting to Internet?

I just bought a new Toshiba Laptop with Vista Home on it.

I have a desktop upstairs with Windows XP..

I have cable internet service through a cable modem and then to a linksys wireless & broadband router. With my old laptop, which also ran XP, I never had a problem locating the linksys network or availability and it ran fine.

With the new laptop, it shows several available networks that are secured but not my linksys network. Laptop is in the same room downstairs as was the old laptop.

How do I get the new laptop to identify and connect to my existing linksys wireless router?

To make things a bit more confusing, at one stage in messing around with the new laptop, a screen came up and it shows the linksys network and that it would load it automatically upon startup.....but it doesn't. Now what? What am I doing wrong? How can i fix it?

  • 2000 Explorer Cooling problem?

Usually the temp. gauge runs in the middle where it's normal. At times, though, it gets pretty hot. I noticed yesterday that it was blowing hot water into the little tank almost filling it. We had been running the a/c as it was over 100 degrees but it has done this without the a/c on normal days, also. There's no water in the oil and no leaking anyplace. Sometimes we need to add water after it cools down, other times when we check it, it's full (radiator, that is). We're stymied. Both sensors were replaced and hoses are still good. Thermostat was replaced as was radiator cap. Now what?

  • On a 2000 Ford Explorer, our little water tank keeps going dry. No visible leaks in the system that I can see.

I don't see any water leaks anywhere. Yet, when I notice the little overflow tank is empty, I check the radiator at the same time. It's low, quite low, also. I keep filling it up and putting water to the cold mark on the tank. Within a few days of driving, same thing again. Driving me crazy....any answers?

  • I love animals and right now we have a female cat almost a year old. All she's ever known is the two of us.

Once in awhile, she'll sort of play with us or even while she's on my lap, will turn and suddenly try to claw your hand or arm or even try to take a bite from your hand or finger. Nothing bad or anything but with sharp claws and teeth, it can be a little painful at times. Once she actually drew blood. I don't think she does this in a mean way and that's my question. Is this the way cats show affection?
