2000 Explorer won't idle.....?

Just started my wife's car to warn it up before she goes to work. Normally, it idles rather high since it's cold and rainy this morning but today, it just went down to nothing and died. Just won't idle. It'll start o.k. but doesn't idle at all.

What's the problem? Any suggestions while I wait for daybreak and less rain to check it out?

Try holding the gas pedal down just a little bit. If it starts and runs, then died when you let go of the pedal its a bad IAC motor (Idle Air Control Motor). Fords are bad for that.

another possibillity, would be that your throttle linkage has sliped. open the hood and check and adjust if needed. You should be able to tell where to adjust by just looking at the aged mark on the linkage from where it orignally was. hope it helps!

she could have a bad throttle position sensor or the ignition got damp from the rain.
