PC vs. Apple- Which one is better for my purposes?
I've always had PC's but once I had the use of an Apple computer. It seemed difficult to operate yet I know many people love them
What are some basic differences between them? Is one actually better than the other in some functions? I want to do some media work (i.e. videos, photo programs, website uploads, etc). Which one would you prefer and why?

I perfer PC since you can do all the things you could do in a MAC on a PC but on a MAC you are limited what you can do compared to a PC. If your not too tech-savy with computers or software than a MAC fits your prefecnes by doing media work as it's a bit more user friendly with that kind of stuff. However a MAC is a much more expensive than a PC with the same exact specification and you can get a much better computer with the money apple charges you.

Experienced PC users often find Apple comptuers difficult to operate. Everything in counter-intuitive and extremely restrictive.
The *only* difference between PCs and Macs is the software; the hardware is virtually identical (which makes the astronomical price of a Mac all the more comical)
In my opinion, the PC is better than the Mac in just about every way, even for multimedia work. All the best programs exist for both platforms so picking one over the other would probably fall onto personal preference.

Depends whether you're willing to learn. It took me about a week to get used to the mac but digging around Automator and scripting has really streamlined a bunch of processes for me (batch renaming, batch downloading, organizing, backup, cvs). PCs can do this as well, but not as easily in my opinion. I really don't think a Mac pays off until these features are explored.
If you're using a computer for the basics (web, office), stick to PC (better value). When dealing with a lot of media, go Mac.

I do a lot of media work.
And I've had a lot of people try to tell me that I'd be better off using a mac.
I still use a PC. Why? Because I know what I'm doing with it.
PC's are perfectly fine for people who understand computers and are used to them.
I find macs unintuitive and oversimplistic.
Don't listen to people who say only apple is any good for media. It's not true, both are perfectly fine (and I think apple's appeal to "creativity" with all their presets cheapens creativity). It's just a matter of what you're most comfortable with.
