    rescue/shelter.....

Go to a shelter. Those animals need it alot more. And dog breeders/farms you have to be VERY careful for the whole puppy mill deal. I'd go to the shelter, because when you rescue an animal from there, it's gonna love you forever, it's gonna love you alot more, for what you've done for it, than a dog from a breeder is gonna love you. Ya know what I mean?

    Get a beagle :]

they're the sweetest dogs in the whole world, and they have great personalities, they make ya laugh, which could help this little girl out alot. Just be careful though, they're very free spirited, only trainable to an extent cuz they think with their noses instead of their brains.

Get a rescue dog from a shelter. Puppy farms/puppy mills and back yard breeders are no place to get a puppy. Not only are they mistreated, malnourished, inbred and usually not healthy, they are certainly not happy. If there are no local shelters in your area, I would go to www.petfinders.com. They have listings of all sorts of dogs and puppy's in need of a good home. Most of the dogs/puppy's that are advertised there, are reasonably priced, usually altered, usually have all their shots and have already been vetted. You can look by breed, age, area etc. And most of the rescues that are represented will transport the dog to your area. And with many that transportation is included in the price.

I hope you will consider rescuing a puppy from a pound. Puppies that are bred are usually done so in very poor conditions and buying one just lets one more of the thousands of pound puppies be put to sleep that day.

One of my Beagles was a breeder dog. I was told they wanted to retire her after she had 3 litters. He pups are show puppies. I was told she was cared for well and was 4 years old and was in air-conditioned quarters in the heat of Texas.

When we got her, we had her spayed. She almost died of blood loss because the vet said she has been bred multiple times with C-sections and had sooo much scar tissue. She had callouses on her paws and the bridge of her nose from trying to get out of the bars of her pen. All went away over time except one. Her teeth were cracked from biting on the bars of her pen. She had an enlarged heart, and the vet said it well could be from the heat in the breeding pen.

She has required heart medications since 2000, and she turned 13 this September. Despite all this, and cancer, she has been a very sweet puppy who can't get enough affection. She gets everything she needs, but I will never understand how breeders treat their dogs this way.

I am an animal lover. Please adopt a rescue pup at petfinder.com or

your local pound or Petsmart. God bless your daughter and may she recover soon! Pets help a person to heal, so you are right to get her a dog.

(I am handicapped, and my Beagles are a source of delight for me every day! If you get a Beagle mix, be sure you have a fenced yard and USA rawhide chewies);)
