How would you deal with a prank calling?

Alright, so for three days now, I've had a heavy breather on the phone who has, apparently, nothing better to do with his time than to call me, a complete and total stranger. I talked over him and said, "As interesting as your phone conversations with me are, I'm no longer interested, so f*** off." and hung up...that only worked for a little while because s/he has just called me again this morning. What is the best smart a** advice that someone could give me to get rid of the loser?

By the way, sorry about any category confusion, but what do you really put this under anyway?

Update:

I can't change my number because it's also my business number. I have been playing him the whole Radiohead collection. His calls keep getting shorter and shorter. I am going to try the whistle next!

Update 2:

It's okay, I told him that my brother was a state trooper (which he is) and that they had traced his number and now he is apologizing to me via text from his real number. Ha ha.

My great grandma used to keep a whistle by her phone and blow it into the phone as hard as she could when people would call and not say anything. It was so funny!

I even have purely submitted a question approximately silent calls. this is a decision centre server making the calls. So there is in all probability a member of their team who's asleep and might't be troubled to benefit what is going on. What I even have performed isn't answer the telephone, yet look ahead to the answering device again on. I even have controlled to get a variety which i'm reporting to Ofcom later. I had 3 silent calls final Saturday, in the gap of 10 minutes. After the 0.33 call the caller did no longer carry up, so as that effectively blocked the line for numerous hours. however the line is okay now. it would desire to be the call centre team awakened and their foot moved from the actual of the table and jogged the telephone receiver.

First, if you are in the US, try doing a *69 and try to find out what number is calling you. If you get a number, then you have some ammunition in case you need to get outside help with this.

I like the idea of the whistle. A good, sharp blast should cut the calls off at the pass.

Lastly, when I had a problem with kids calling (thought they were calling and teasing their friend, but had my number instead), I just took the phone off the hook. They can't get through, of course, no one else can either, but anyone who really wants to contact me will call my mobile number anyway.

I once had a prankster who liked to call repeatedly. He liked to call and say stupid stuff before hanging up.

After he called two times one evening, I had someone different answer the phone and say, "Renton police department."

    He hung up quick!

What's more is my husband immediately got a call on his cell phone from an idiot friend of his saying that he was making some "innocent" calls and now the police were after him over some kind of telephone misunderstanding.

Now, not only did we get the calls to stop, we knew who had made them.

Next time you are expecting the moron to call you, have a man answer, "(City you are in) police department."

  • If you have caller ID, copy down the number and contact the phone company to have the individual blocked.

Failing that...keep a log of when he's calling, and then contact the phone company as they can easily find out who he is.

The next time he calls...tell him you have his number and you're calling the police.

This is considered harassment. Do you have an answering machine? If so, let the machine pick up. Your business callers will start to talk, then, pick up.

Also, check with your local police dept on how to deal with this guy. He is waiting for your reaction. If he gets an answering machine, he will hang up. If you hang up without talking, he won't get the reaction he wants, and hopefully it will stop.

Don't answer, Don't pickup, turn the volume down, Get a answer machine that might help you. What the dilemma frustrate over a weirdo. What for? You've more better thing to do. Just forget about!

file a compliant with the police department.

then call your phone provider. they can then start tracing the calls. they can only trace with a complaint filed with the police department.

we just had this happen, i have a call into our police department, so that i can file my complaint.

or you could do as the other poster said, answer the phone as the police department.. that should scare him!

i don't know if you have a caller i.d., but it kinda helps, when you his/her number displaying, don't pick-up, but if that prankster is some kinda smart*** and uses different numbers, what i usually do is when it rings, i just pick it up and not speak, if it is a serious call, the caller will have the initiative to say "hello" first

answer the phone in as deep a voice as you can muster...

Any town police dept, Sgt mahony here, how can I help you...

if the guy is dumb enough to keep talking just say you are conducting an investigation of a murder and what is his involvement in the matter...

    worked for me.....
