help with potty training...?

my daughter is 2 years, 10 months old. We started potty training a week ago. I started by trying by just completly stopping diapers, and putting on panties. She kept going in panties, so I kept them off and put nothing on. Now, we have MAYBE one pee accident a day and no poop accident, she goes on the potty without me telling her while at home. But once I put those panties on her she automatically pees or poops in them. I try and tell her while I am putting on the panties that she needs to keep them clean and dry and when she needs to potty, mommy will help her pull her panties down if she needs help, but she continues to pee in them. She is a BIG Dora fan, and got her some Dora panties, and that was the only accident she has had today was when she was wearing them. I know she cant go bare butted all the time, and I am not going back to diapers. (I have a 1 year old to diaper too) How can I get her to understand that she needs to go on the potty when she wearing panties and they arent a diaper?

Update:

she gets rewards when she does go on the potty, she doesnt get much juice but she gets it when she goes on the potty, or a cookie, or stickers, which ever she chooses, and surprisingly it isnt always a cookie!!! and I do try to tell her big girls dont go in their panties, like how me and her aunts and grandmas wear panties and we dont go potty in our panties

when i read what you wrote i was thinking that is exactly what my son did.

He is now mostly pottytrained which i am very happy about. We also did the nacked thing for a while and than it was the same story as soon as he wore underpants it went in. I left him nacked for the majority of the day and at night he got a diaper after a few weeks i just put underpants on and send him to go pipi every 2 hours if he didnt want to i made him go anyways. After a short time he was doing it by himself and now we only have an accident every so often. the proplem with my son was not that he couldnt do it. It was that he didnt wanna do it and that it was an inconvinience for him to leave his game behind.

My tip is leave her nacked for a few days see how much time passes between her potty times than put some underpants on and remind her in regular periods to go to the bathroom, if she doesnt want to make her go anyways. continue to give her rewards for going without a fuzz.

Good luck to you and dont worry to much after all all of us got to use the potty sooner or later she wont be going to school in diapers :)

It might also be a good idea to buy a few books on the subject that you can read with her. And have her around pottytrained kids.

we also had an Elmo Potty training dvd and we had the teddybear go to the potty to. It might be nice if you have one of those tinkeling dolls if you put her on the potty and make it a game. When my son was a little bigger he used the toilette but the bear had to go to the potty at the same time

    Best of luck to you

It really sounds like you are doing the right thing to me! When we were potty training our son, he would use the pull-ups as diapers sometimes, so we got rid of the pull-ups and put underwear on him. There were a few times he went in his underwear, and we'd get onto him for it- not punish him or get him in trouble- but let him know that it was not OK to do that.

Sometimes we'd do the no underwear thing, and that always worked!

So, it didn't take long for him to get used to the big boy underwear after getting onto him a few times. Make the underwear being a "big girl" thing a big deal... She'll catch on. Just make a really big deal when she goes in the potty and maybe give her a little treat for it..

"potty pellets" worked good as a reward for her. My 3, almost 4 year old is fighting potty training as well. We ran out of pullups one day, and placed a "baby diaper" on him, and he hated it.

Sometimes, it just takes kids longer. Keep up the good work!

You need to give her an incentive to keep her panties clean...like 2 M&Ms every time she pees in the pot and pulls her panties down first.

It sounds like she is displaying very good control! My daughter was interested in the real toilet and I wanted to build on that. I researched and found a very safe and very sturdy stool with sides for the toilet so she could hold on at all times. http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corporation-TPS-...

She stepped right up with no help and loved using it. This stool made all the difference and was well worth it. Hope this helps.
