GF8 8800GT 512M overkill for non gamer ?
I can get this card new for only $120, & am wondering if it's more than I need to obtain good HDTV out on a 46" LCD for Media Center under Vista Ultimate.
Getting an 8600GTS would only save me about $30.
All comments are appreciated.

First off, congratulations on the new 46" LCD, Philip !
> should make for awesome viewing
sure the 8800GT is waaay superior to the 8600GTS
& paying only $30 extra seems logical !
now for non-gaming, it's indeed a tough choice
- are you going to get even a 10% boost viewing blu-ray or hdtv
- does it have other implications like changing your power supply, which should be not ; as also heat implications > which again is non-issue, since the card would not be loaded
- will you even be tempted to install games, just to harness the 8800
guess these are some of the points that should help you decide either way
checkout if this helps,

That card would work great. May be some over kill since you are not doing much gaming.
I would probably choose a Radeon HD 3000 series for that. Just my preference. And for your $100 price range. But i have the money and will be switching soon to a Radeon HD 4850. Thats just what i would do.
My question below has a lot of good informatoin about Resolutions on an HDTV.

You don't need a 800gt, or even a 8600gts, just get a 9400gt, or even a 8500gt.

Good card. It will handle what you throw at it for quite sometime to come.
