Laptop advice. Notebook vs. Laptop for a gift?

I have a dell inspiron 1521 currently. I love it and so does my husband. I want to get him one for Christmas so I will be able to use mine again (he's a computer hog). He also is out of town on business a lot so this would let us communicate more. The only thing we do on it is surf the net, e-mail, watch movies, and download pictures from our camera. Which would be the best for him a notebook or a laptop. Any recommendations on a model? I have been looking at the dell inspiron 1525 and the mini. Please give me some advice.

Alright kewl i got this, i work at best buy and match people up with there laptops everyday. First deffintly want a laptop much larger HDD for photos and more ports.

For his uses i would reccomend 3 brands hp,sony, and toshiba. You will get the better price on the Hp and Toshiba and its still just as good as a sony vaio. Go to bestbuy.com and search for the hp 6815 and then do a search for the toshiba A305-S6872. Those both have awsome prices and have large HDD, 3gb of memory and fast processors. And thats not all they also have built in wireless cards and so you can chat to eachother they also have built in webcams. Hope these work for. good luck :)

"Notebook" and "Laptop" are pretty much interchangeable. Like "Used" vs "Pre-Owned"-- one just sounds more sophisticated than the other.

From what you're describing as your primary uses, I would make sure the one you buy make sure you has the following critical specs:

**Core2Duo Processor or Core2Quad (NOT a Celeron D which is a dual core but doesn't have the necessary amount of memory on the chip to mean anything useful. The C2D has 4 MB of L2 Cache vs 512KB on the Celeron)

**A minimum of 2 GB of at least 800MHz RAM. If possible, go with 4 GB. 32-Bit Windows will only see 3.5 GB but for Vista & Movies you need as much as you can get!

Of course you want as big a hard drive as you can get and decent speakers like Altec Lansing or something similar built in but make sure you get the right CPU and RAM or you're going to be disappointed.

I can't begin to tell you how many people have brought in brand new laptops with Celerons and Vista complaining of terrible performance.

If you have a dell inspiron 1521 and you guys love it, just get another one.

first of all. dont get anything mini for a guy. get a nice big 17 inch widescreen laptop.

the gateway's p-series is perfect. probably a bit more costly than a dell though.

but he will love you long time for sure with this gift.

itl be great for your pictures and the movies that you want to watch.

I have had a dell for a while and i always thought that is was a pretty good computer but then i found HP and i have always been with them since, and there is really no price difference but I have to say that HP has way better customer service and their computer quality is WAY better. if all you do is internet, email, movies, and pictures. here are some links to some pretty good computers, and since he travel alot i would say a 14" screen size would be best. here are some links.
