Why does a doctor tab around on your stomach area during an examination?

    Depending on the areas he taps, the sound is different. One sound tells him that the organs are in the right place, or not. Another tells him that you have air in your colon or chest. Another sound will tell him you have blood or fluid in there.

    Usuallly, looking for "sore" spots which can signal a problem. Depends on the exam though...woman or man.

    They are listening for blockages in your colon.
