I am going to assume you have a touch pad to control your cursor. Any time you accidentally touch this it will click the mouse and try to put your typing cursor where ever the mouse pointer is and this is what makes your text jump.

Quite a few laptops have a button that you can use to turn on and off the touch pad, usually right above the touch pad. If you have this button turn it off while you are typing. I usually have mine turned of and an external mouse activated for this.

If you don't have the button I have found that a credit card will usually cover the touch pad and stop you from accidentally clicking the mouse.

You are either accidentally hitting the mouse pad and causing a click or hitting the nub mouse and causing a click.

(what i mean by nub mouse: http://www.clickykeyboard.com/2005/trackpoint/1428...

You can probably go into you touch pad settings and disable clicking with it. I was never able to disable clicking with my nub mouse.

Your Alignment in text format is set to CENTER, you need to instead set it to LEFT.

What software are you typing in? I can give you specific directions if I know.
