Dog prices: designer dog and purebred dog?

Why do people find it ok to sell a designer dog for the price of a purebred dog, but think a purebred dog with no papers cant be sold for the regular purebred price?

Here is a better question: Why are people dumb enough to pay top dollar for a mutt that they could find at an animal shelter for $50 dollars or less.

    Its ridiculous.

Right now the designer dogs are popular. People want teeny tiny dogs to put in their purse or dog that are hypoallergenic o just their two favorite breeds meshed together. Just like when ever there is a demand for things, people higher there prices and overproduce. The people who are getting these "designer dogs" don't know any better than to spend $2,000 on one.

Maybe that's the reason! The people who are buying "designer dogs" know hardly anything about the dog business and are more prone to spending a whole lot of money for a mutt. They probably think with the fancy bow and background, these MUST be good breeders or a good pet shop to get a puppy from.

People going to buy a pure breed dog may know that without papers, the dog can't be worth as much so they have a little more knowledge than the people looking to purchase a designer dog.

Neither is OK. Without papers from a legitimate registry like AKC (and we're not talking Continental Kennel Club for example), there's no proof the dog is a purebred anything. Whether you choose to register the dog is up to you, but the papers prove the dog is purebred and for that reason it commands a higher price.

But designer mutts and so-called "purebreds" that have no legitimate papers may as well be the same price as any mixed breed dog found in a shelter - $50-100. They are worth no more than that.

Supply and demand. people are dumb enough to pay that price then somebody is going to sell for that price. The purebreds with out papers are not worth as much because they have no papers. They are the deal of a lifetime for a person that wants a purebred for a pet and not a show dog or a breeder.

People don't understand that there is more involved than just sticking two dogs together and the purebred puppies will sell for as much as a titled, health tested dog.

I also don't understand why good breeders sell their health tested puppies out of titled parents for as little as some BYB's. Your dogs are worth more money! They shouldn't have to compete with the pet market, but they do.

Dogs from BYBs and designer dogs are both worth the same price. . .the same price you can adopt a dog from a shelter for. Price should be reflective of the quality of the dog's heritage.

i think for some reason they believe these "designer breeds" are purebred, or that they can make a new breed.. theres alot of ignorance in the world.

a purebred with no papers is no better, theres no proof they are even purebred.

thats why i laugh when people say they hav a purebred, then you ask if they have papers and thy say no. well if the dog was purebred would it not have papers?

the problem is that people keep buying these mutts, if people would smarten up and go to a reputable breeder or shelter, alot of these people would stop breeding these dogs, if they arent making money then why would they breed them.

I don't know. I hate that people charge outrageous prices for a cross breed. I hate it more that people actually pay those outrageous prices.

I think a papered dog should cost more than an un-papered dog. Whether it's a "purebred" or a mix, if there are no papers, they shouldn't be costing huge amounts of money.

I don't think either is ok. "designer dogs" are mutts and should be sold for no more than the price of first shots an the cost to have teh b*tch spayed divided by the number of puppies . A purebred without papers is also basically a mutt and should be sold for no more than the cost of first shots and the cost to have the b*thc spayed divided by the number of puppies

I dont think its OK to sell a mutt for a high price either.

Both unregistered purebreds and "designer" mixes are worth no more than what it costs to adopt from your local shelter.

My dogs prices: pit bull (free from my mother in law)

    Registered Jack Rus. 175$

my MUTT (designer york-chi) 150 (adoption fee)

    Great Dane with papers- $350

people are greedy and will stop at nothing to make $$$$ even if it means endangering animals with over and inbred breeding.

I worked for a pet store when i was younger that sold UN papered MUTSS for over 1000$ and people were dumb enough to buy them
