Obama already has abandoned efforts in Alaska, Georgia, Montana and North Dakota?
So, why all the Democrat glee over Michigan?
Thats 24 Electoral votes he is giving up on, versus McCains 17...and Barry has over twice as much money to spend.....

Probably because Obama was never going to win Alaska, Georgia, North Dakota or Montana. I cannot remember the last time a Democrat did (other than Carter winning Georgia). And more to the point Obama does not need to win those states to win.
Michigan on the other hand was considered a good chance for McCain after the Dem primary situation. Michigan has voted Republican in 5 of the last 9 presidential elections and McCain could really have used those 17 votes.

Because Michigan was an undecided state. Whoever wins the most undecided states will win the election. Right now Obama holds a slight but significant lead in the polls and the electoral votes. Obama is working on the states he needs to win over as McCain is doing. However, every state McCain concedes brings Obama closer to the White House.

The thing is that those states are GOP strongholds. Obama doesn't need those states to win. Since McCain conceded Michigan he has less ways to get to 270 electoral votes. McCain is defending states he shouldn't have to like Virgina, Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri.
Since McCain conceded Michigan, he absolutely needs to win BOTH Ohio and Florida. If he even loses one of those two states it's all over for him.

good point.
alaska 3
georgia 15
montana 3
north dakota 3
that equals 24
michigan alone is 17.
so yea mccain gained 4 states but 3 out of 4 have very low electoral votes.
by the way im voting for mccain.

Because people who are true party people need to rip the opposition to believe that their guy is the one who will make things all better.
I live in CA and I dont' remember ever seeing Bush campaign here in either 2000 or 2004 yet the guy still won. They aren't going to spend $$$ in a state where they have no chance. They will pick and choose their battlegrounds and where they will spendtheir money. That's how it goes.

Ummm...well, GA was abandoned quite some time ago and having grown up there I can assure that he never stood a snowballs chance in Hell of winning, ND was never going to vote for him nor was MT or AK. Michigan was a true battleground and none of those states ever really were.

Montana, North Dakota, and Alaska together = 9 electoral votes.
They (and Georgia) are solidly Republican in national elections.

McCain packed it up in Michigan today. I guess you didn't hear. He wants to focus on the more important states or something like that.
