Are bridesmaid dresses worn again?

Have people ever really worn bridesmaid dresses AGAIN? I know I have several in my closet that I've never ever worn again. I can see that one might wear a black dress again but for the most part, I don't think most bridesmaid dresses are worn again.

I have a total of 5 bridesmaid dresses in my closet and have NEVER thought of wearing them again. This 5 does not include the 2 that I gave away for proms. I think they're a terrible waste of money and if the Bride really wants her brides maids to look worse than her on her big day, make them walk the isle in a garbage bag, atleast it could be used afterwards. I plan to have a very small and simple wedding, big weddings are such a waste, all that money saved can be spent on the honeymoon or setting up house, and you won't break your friends bank accounts in order for them to take part in your big day.

You've asked an interesting question and have some insightful answers. Together they make me wonder about something, especially after a conversation with a bride yesterday. Do you think that brides choose dresses they would wear again, but in reality the dresses are not the same taste as her bridesmaids so they don't get worn? For instance, if the bride had a dress like her bridesmaids, she might actually wear it later when her bridesmaid wouldn't because it's not their style. Could that be a possibility? I'd never thought about it until a bride told me she choose dresses her bridesmaid hated on purpose because they had all made her wear dresses she hated in their weddings. And it's now "pay back time." Kinda of a 27 dresses type of pay back, huh?

Depends on the style and the maid! I have never worn one more than once and that was enough for me as I wasn't fond of either. However, some of the cute, summery dresses I have seen at weddings I would have worn again. I donated my bridesmaid attire to prom dress drives in the area, that way someone else can wear it - but only if they like it! ( =

No they usually are not worn again....I at one point I thought if I was having a spring wedding I was looking at Davids Bridal because they had nice dress Capri's and a beautiful white to be that was more of a wrap. I winded up spending a lot of money on my bridesmaids dresses and they didn't wear them again. For someone who is getting married I would have suggested my original thought because it's truly a waste of money.

Want to hear something funny, I'm scouring ebay for someone's a dress that will be suitable for a holiday party I have coming up in December for work!

I found a "worn once" bridesmaid dress that I'm bidding on that is totally adorable and I'm going to take it to a tailor and have it shortened if I win.

So, I think if the style and colors are good they certainly can be worn again.

Depends on the bridemaid's dress. I cut the skirt off of mine and turned the top into a tunic and wore that to weddings and other events for the next several years. The skirt fabric was turned into doll clothing. Most though don't seem to translate all that well because of the fabric, style or color used. One of the reasons I always refused to be a bridesmaid (this one was for a sister's wedding).

I have never worn any of my bridesmaid dresses again. Just think about the movie 26 dresses...lol

  • That really all depends on the style of the dress. If the bride chooses a dress that looks like a cocktail dress, I'm sure the bridesmaids will wear them again for another occassion.

Probably not many. Just depends upon the dress.

My maids chose really cool dresses for our wedding - and out of the four of them, three have worn them again, two of them more than once! So, to me, that's such a bonus!

It was a July wedding, the dresses are tealength, white embossed fabric with little posies of lilac, pink and yellow with light teal leaves - flowers are kind of a watercoloured style, really pretty. Dress has short sleeve, back has three criss-crossed straps, front is deep vee-neck, basque waist and nice full skirt.

I always wished I had bought MYSELF one because it's just a really pretty summer dress for a social occasion.

    Well.. kinda... sorta...

I actually got a long black dress from a bridal shop to wear to a high school christmas dance.

When I got married We decided on having hot pink as our color. When I went to look at bridesmaid dresses it was between two (one being the one I had in black) I opted on the one I already had, and then we change our colors to hot pink, black, and white. My maid of honor wore the black one, and the other girls wore the same dress in pink.
