Do you have Bi-polar Disorder?

if you do, How do you live with it? How has it affected your life? Any trouble with (or without) medication?

I was recently diagnosed. I have ultra rapid cycling and psychosis. I have been on Geodon and Depakote for 6 weeks now and I am still struggling with this. Notice that I am only 16 years old.

Can some of you share some of your stories living with this?

Wow! (((((many hugs))))) That must be unbearable!

Several people and doctors in the past thought I was bipolar. The meds made me insane. I lost 3 years of my life (literally- I was in a fog/suicidal the whole time). I found a psychiatrist that treats *people* without slapping a label on them. And he's the one use prescribed the meds based on my symptoms. After a LOT of trial and error it was discovered I "only" have a severe anxiety/panic disorder.

I have a sleep disorder that mimics the preconceived notions the general public (and the medical community) tend to have regarding MI's. (namely, I tend to not sleep until I'm too exhausted to continue because my natural sleep cycle is to stay up at night and sleep during the day, but that's hard to do with 4 kids lol)

I'm currently off my meds so I can have an official sleep study done and an EEG. But being on the right combination has made all the difference in the world. It makes those 3 years I lost worth it.

I've not been there for a long time, but they gave me the strength I needed when I needed it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_sleep_phase_s... My sleep disorder. I may also have very low-grade narcolepsy.

I have had friends with this and once they figure out the right medicines you will be fine and no one will know the difference, and it takes time to get used to the meds and you will need counseling as well, don't feel like your not as worthy as everyone else, it's not your fault and you are going threw puberty two and that makes it worse with your emotions, but you will be ok be honest with your therapist and ask only close family members if they notice unusual behavior, and if they notice some ask it what it is they notice then work on, before long no one will be able to tell the difference. I worked with a guy that had it and he felt comfortable enough to ask me when he was at work if he acted abnormal. It helped him figure out what he could and could not do. He kinda knew when he felt different but would ask me and I knew him well enough I could tell him and we would talk about what he did different that week, soon we were able to figure out the things he could not do, like drink beer for one and be around paint would cause him to get a little off but you will be ok. He got his meds straight got married and had kids so don't worry over it. Talk with your counselor and your doctor and family members and in a little while you will feel much better about yourself. Good Luck Friend.
