What is up with the Joe Six-Pack thing?

I guess I'm just missing what it's supposed to mean. Can someone fill me in?

Golly gee, you betcha I know what joe six pack means. Sure thing, I'm gonna tell ya, yep that's what I'm gonna do. Hockey moms and joe six packs are what this country is made of. My guy Todd and I are a hockey mom and a joe six pack. Maybe I didn't answer the question you asked and didn't give you what you want to hear, but I'm speakin' directly to the American people.

No really, it is supposed to mean the average Joe. It is funny that she thinks all average Americans do everything over a beer. Maybe some , but not all.

This is an expression that refers to the common, everyday man. You know, the guy who works hard, has a family, pays his bills and enjoys a six pack while manning the barbecue or watching a football game on the weekend.

    It's an old expression, actually.

It means your Everyday, Down-to-Earth Guy/Gal in America - at least that's what a friend explained to me. Trouble is, I'm a foreigner and a foreigner explained that to me and it made sense. What surprises me is that Americans also don't seem to know so it may be a term specifically appreciated or, better said, 'used' in Alaska.

I'd also love to see some more answers on that one.

It's a phrase used in attempt to get voters to identify and relate, in this case, to a particular political candidate in order to win votes. Using phrases for this purpose is one of the many effective propaganda techniques.
