What are some famous military bases?

I'm travelling from Michigan to California and plan to visit a military site. If there is one, what is the admission fee?

There is no admission fee. You can go onto the San Diego Marine Recruit Training Depot with a license, registration and proof of insurance and drive through much of the base. I'm not sure what you want to see. When you decide which bases you would like to visit check their website for rules or get the number for their visitor's center and call. Many bases will have a museum for the public, several places to eat, etc.

I've been to several museums on military bases. The best was NAS Pensacola because I like aircraft. I don't remember ever being charged an admission fee, just a donation if you wanted to.

Well, Chief Geronimo is buried at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The Armor Museum is at Fort Knox. I don't know whats available at Fort Hood or Fort Campbell.

The USS Hornet is docked in Alameda,CA on San Francisco Bay. Its at Alameda Point, the old Naval Air Station. Its a WWII era carrier, launched the Doolittle Raid, recovered Apollo 11, and is said to be haunted by the ghosts of her crew. I think they let you stay overnight.

Her nickname is the ''Grey Ghost''
