how can I substitute...?
the dry beans as a weight to cook pie crust? I have some pie crust leftover and I don't want to throw it away, so I thought I would cook it in the meantime and then make a filling. I don't have dry beans though, what else can I use? Help!

honestly it will come out fine without the beans just make sure to poke the crust with a fork a few times.

Pricking the bottom of the pie is a common way of avoiding the dry beans method. Using another pie plate is fine if it has a vented base and it will not stick to the crust. Marbles are usually okay, but I have heard of them shattering, leaving a little special seasoning to your pie crust.
I got sick of throwing out beans and having leaky pies, so I ordered pie weights from some fancy-cook catalog. They work great and are on a string, so I just pick-up one end and put the whole thing back in its tin after baking.

I never use beans to weigh down a pie crust. I always just prick it really well with a fork to let steam out, and it comes out great.

I know this won't help you now, but you can buy pie crust weights:

For now, poke it with a fork and it will let the air out and bake just fine!

rice or another pie plate. I have never done either and I have baked a lot of pies during my 40 years of cooking.
