What is the easiest and cheapest way to obtain an abandonment title for a vehicle in New Mexico?
My dad let me have a car that was abandoned on his property. When he bought his land, the owner of the car left it in a barn and said he would be back in six months to get it. Fifteen years later, there it still sat so he gave it to me. I want to restore it, but I need a title first. What is the best way to go about it?

Go to the DMV. They will come out and get the VIN number and do a title search. They will try to contact the owner on the current title. If he does not reply in a given time, the vehicle will default to you. There is a fee for this and the process may vary from state to state. Good luck.
