  • Street Lamp Question?

I have a burned out light behind my house. I have a 60 watt Metal Halide bulb that I thought would work and seems to fit in it, but the housing has a sticker inside that says "100W HPS/S54 max"

Will the bulb I have work?

    thanks!

  • vw aircooled engine smoking?

So, my buddy and I have built a 1776. We have quite a bit of experience with old VWs and have never had this much trouble with a new build.

    New piston/ring/cylinder set, rebuilt heads.

1st time we fired it up, it started smoking. We shrugged and took it for a spin, but it only started to smoke more. We decided to pull it and tear it down. #4 cylinder has some carbon buildup on top of the piston, we thought maybe we just installed the rings incorrectly - so we pulled all 4 and did them again. 2nd time we fired it, it still smoked. So we decided to try a used set of heads from a good running used engine.. We're still getting white smoke at high RPM or especially after revving it up.

The only things we can think of are that:

    a) the cylinder, rings, or pistons are defective. They are used and not returnable.

    b) the rebuilt heads were not right. AND the used heads we thought were good aren't.

    or

    c) the rings just aren't seating properly. We assembled it with synthetic oil, since it's what we had around.

    anyone?

  • How can I find out about recent home sales in an area I where am looking for a home?

How can I find out how many sales are actually going down, as opposed to houses sitting for 6 months or more (there are a few of them) and, how much those sales are for?

How many miles would you expect to get out of a decently maintained mid-nineties Suzuki Intruder?

  • New Mexico - Elephant Butte Lake - Fishing from the shore?

Hi, just wondering if anyone familiar with Elephant Butte can let me know about shore fishing down there. Can you fish off the marina? What kind of fishing might I find? What kind of fish, and how can I catch them?

I'll be spending a couple of days and might bring my pole and get a license, if it would be worth the time without a boat.

  • Is it possible to test a pistol's extractor without firing the gun?

Can you test the extractor in a Sterling 300 pistol (or any other, for that matter) by racking the slide repeatedly by hand and seeing if it ejects the shells?

  • Sterling Arms 300 .25acp barrel takedown procedure?

How do I replace the recoil spring in a Sterling 300?

I have field stripped the gun and it looks like I will need to remove a pin or two to get the barrel out of the frame so I can replace the recoil spring. Anyone here done this on this particular model before?

  • How thick does the concrete for my shed floor need to be?

I am looking to build a 4x4 shed to house a safe. I'm not sure of its weight, but from what I can find on the internet it's 1500-3000 pounds. How thick will a concrete floor have to be to support the safe? Do I need to make a "foundation" with some sort of aggregate? Will pig wire do for reinforcement? (I already have a roll of it, so it could save me a little money)

  • What is the easiest and cheapest way to obtain an abandonment title for a vehicle in New Mexico?

My dad let me have a car that was abandoned on his property. When he bought his land, the owner of the car left it in a barn and said he would be back in six months to get it. Fifteen years later, there it still sat so he gave it to me. I want to restore it, but I need a title first. What is the best way to go about it?

  • What is the best choice for defense ammo in an older 9mm semi-auto?

I have a Smith&Wesson model 39-2, an older gun with an aluminum alloy frame.

I have read that heavier, high pressure (+P) loads can eventually cause failures if it's used consistently, since the frame isn't steel.

I am looking for a round that is not too hot for my gun, but that will do the job if I need it to - and at the same time isn't too expensive. I want to practice with the same rounds I will have ready for home defense.

Looking around on some forums, people have recommended these-

    Federal Hydra-Shock 124gr

Federal Tactical 124gr JHP (for police only...so I guess that one's out)

    Remington Green Box 124gr JHP

Any experience/insight you'd like to share?

    thanks,

    -Steve
