Street Lamp Question?
I have a burned out light behind my house. I have a 60 watt Metal Halide bulb that I thought would work and seems to fit in it, but the housing has a sticker inside that says "100W HPS/S54 max"
Will the bulb I have work?
thanks!

May burn for a little while but the ballast is different for a metal Halide and a high pressure sodium. You would be better off to buy the correct bulb and install it. Keep in mind also that a metal Halide contains Mercury so be careful with it just a little can do a lot of damage to you so dispose of properly! Happy lighting and be safe Tim

The bulb you have is a High Pressure Sodium. It will not work with the ballast for the metal halide and if it were to light would more than likely burn out the bulb or burn out the ballast.

You have the wrong bulb. There is a danger you will destroy the ballast in the light fixture. Purchase the correct lamp.
