I'm ordering my wedding dress online..?

and they are custom made.. I need to send them my measurements to get the dress to fit right... .My question is, Could I go to a place like David's bridal, and have them measure me?? would they do it? I cant have anyone of my friends or family doing it, because its a surprise wedding.

I am a seamstress and know that proper measurements are crucial!!!!! Take the list of what measurements they ask for and go to a tailor or a wedding dress alterations shop. They will do the correct measurements, but they might charge a small fee. Do not pay more than $20.

I am doing the same thing, ordering online... and this is how I'm going to handle it...

I'm going to go to the bridal place here in town (which is just a local shop, not a big chain store) and I'm telling them that I'm standing up in a wedding out of state and I need to get measured so I can call in my measurements to the place they are ordering our dresses from. I'm sure they may charge me a nominal fee for their time, but they aren't going to question it any further than that... I'm sure they've had lots of people do this over the years. In fact my brother stood up in a wedding in CA (he lives in MN) and he did the same thing for his tux, he went somewhere local and they measured him, no questions asked.

You could go to David's but I agree with the other answerer that said that a bigger chain store might refuse to do it if you aren't buying a dress there, however, if you tell them MY story, they might let it slide... You could always call first before going to make sure they will do it so you don't waste your time.

A surprise wedding, eh?? I could never keep a secret that big for that long, lol ;)

    Good luck! :)

I think you will find that private companies will not do this especially as you are not buying the dress from them as they could be held responsible if the measurements are wrong.

It is a very risky business buying your gown online as it all depends on where you are buying it from as there measurements vary greatly.

If you do get it wrong you will then have a large bill for alteration costs and in my opinion it is just not worth it when you could get a dress made up to order from a dressmaker locally the same dress etc or you can buy sample dresses from bridal stores for so cheap I cannot understand why anyone would want to do this.

I personally think your asking for trouble.

Good luck with whatever you decide

I would go to a dress maker for your measurements if you are getting a custom made dress.

It isn't as simple as just wrapping a tape measure around your belly or bum, it has to be quite precise.

Sometimes the sales people don't know how to measure you! I was measured incorrectly and my dress didn't fit. I had to spend $500+ on alterations.

A dress make might charge a small nominal fee for your time but it will be well worth it in the end.

consistently order a minimum of a million length up. some gown makers are wayyy off out of your commonly used 6, 8, 10, 12 sizing. wedding ceremony outfits at the instant are not measured like denims are i positioned on a 12 and my gown is a 14. i'm dropping weight too, however the base line is purchase something that suits what you at the instant are and have it taken in if/once you lose the load. you do not % to purchase an 8 then comprehend 3 wks earlier the marriage you probably did not lose adequate, or kill your self attempting to make certain you lose adequate

I would suggest a seamstress or tailor. Even offer to pay them $20 to take your measurements.

As someone who ordered a custom dress off of eBay where measurements are required, I can tell you that it is ESSENTIAL to get the measurements right. Also, round up to the nearest full inch - - so if your waist is 26.5 inches, order it with 27 inches.

Yup! go in there and pretend like you want a dress from them. Since you are ordering online it's probably best to go to a bridal store and try a couple dresses in a similar style on anyways (to make sure it looks as great as you think it will before you buy it).

I doubt David's would do it, as they are all about the $$$...but a local tailor or alterations place would do it I am sure. Call ahead :)
