An Islam question Respectful answers please.?

Okay, not too long ago I mentioned writing a science fiction novel about a futuristic space station. A Jordanian couple reside there. They are going to attend mosque, but from what I understand about Islam (and it's limited) they should face Mecca when they pray.

So. How do do they do that when they're light years away from earth? I thought it over last night and the logistics of this is complicated.

Could someone give me some insight into this?

thank you.

The only option is that they would have to face the direction of earth. Once you're off-planet, there is no way to enforce that you're facing a particular spot on earth, unless you're in orbit of the planet somewhere slightly off from Mecca (not right above it).

This would also mean that, if the space station is moving (other than in a straight line), so too would the direction of earth change, and therefore the direction in which they pray. Personally, I think that would be more interesting, but I doubt this is the main point of your story.

    Good luck with it!

Obviously there would be some sort of electronic or virtual qiblah finder to enable them to pray in the proper direction. (I believe this has already come up at the International Space Station.)

    Here's an Earthbound version:

They pray in the direction of Earth.

Earth should still be some known direction from where they are. They would simply face that direction.

If its a fantasy novel, theres no need to worry about such technicalities
