Education importance in presidency?

How important is education to you when voting for president? We know who has the most, but we don't know who is the most intelligent. In the working world education does not equal money. Most of the nations millionaires are only high school graduates.

It seems that people who are overly educated only know what others have taught them (through textbooks and college professors) and are not very good at thinking and making decisions on their own.

So what are your thoughts? Do you vote for the one that went to the most expensive college? Remember Bush went to Harvard too.

Many uneducated people make up facts that are simply not true. For example:

    <<

Most of the nations millionaires are only high school graduates.

Not true my uneducated friend. Only 1 in 5 millionaires, oh i forgot you cant figure this out on your own, that's 20 percent do not a have some for of college degree. That figure does vary slightly depending on who you ask, but its around 20 percent meaning the other 80 percent have college degrees.

Wrong again. Critical thinking is focused on in college, and people are taught to think critically. Most engineers, doctors, scientists, lawyers eg. people who have to think independently for a livng are college educated.

Yes but bush did not do well in harvard business school. Nor did he do well when he was in princeton, and he was just a history major. John McCain also did poorly in school, and Sara Palin flunked out of a couple of schools.

Bush was only at Harvard because he was a Bush.He received a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University in 1968, President Bush received a Master of Business Administration from Harvard but only because of his family name, Look at the man he is not clever.

I do agree with you that there is a certain kind of intellect that can only be gained from the streets or from experience, That's why its important to listen to each candidates policies and judge them on not only what you can gain from but what in reality is the correct thing to do in all circumstances, You need to ask yourself What does the Candidate stand and Who the Candidate your going with is truly looking out for. I think besides education you need to make your decision on this also.

Would you want a lawyer with only a high school diploma defending you? I doubt it. I'm sorry but McCain doesn't cut it. I have more Ed. then McCain and I am no where near qualified even w/ my undergraduate degree in Poli. Science. Bush didn't get into an Ivy league school based on merit; he was excepted because of his father and did not step up to the plate. You can not compare him to Sen. Obama.

Its funny how most people with little higher ed. like to say it doesn't matter.....ya, right! That's why a Dr, nurse, lawyer, teacher etc all have to have a college degree but to be president you don't? One of the most important jobs in the world? That idea is totally illogical!

Wilson and Hoover were probably the most educated of the presidents, and they aren't considered among the best, or even in the top half.

Truman was probably the least educated, and in hindsight, has been considered a very good president, though he had a very low approval rating during his tenure.

The presidency is a position of action, command and control, not debate, and it requires the moral courage and character to do what one believes is right for America, without regard to the political fallout.

As rich as Oprah is, she would not make a good president. Maybe Vice President but then again why would she want to? She's filthy rich and doesn't need to be stuck in the white house. She can travel, have dinner with celebrities and just be great. Vote Obama

Education is important, but not an overall deciding factor. When you apply for a job, often times there is an education criteria for the job... why should the President of the United States be any different?

Actually you are wrong most millionaires have at least a Bachelors degree and most have post graduate degrees. A man who commits to education shows that he has a desire to understand the world. One must understand in order to change. John McCain is always at the bottom of his class always the thug at the back of the room skating by on his family name. Barack Obama worked hard to come from a single parent home, he relied on scholarships and hard work to get where he is today. That is the kind of man I trust to lead this country, not a person who has had ever thing in life handed to him yet still managed to fail at virtually every task.

Most of the nations millionaires are only high school graduates??? WRONG!!!! Where are you getting your facts? Smart students earn scholarships to pay for college. IE: Obama. As for McSames education, I don't think finishing 885 out of 889 in your class qualifies as intelligent or wise.

I agree with you that formal education does not necessarily equate to intelligence, but in this case Obama is clearly far more intelligent than McCain. He thinks on his feet and he has an incredibly fast learning curve, while McCain shows a tendency not to learn from past mistakes. Obama's wisdom and practical and academic knowledge far exceed what his professors taught him.

Also, his life accomplishments, in rising from where he came from to where he has gotten to, are truly impressive. McCain was born into a family of privilege and power, and often appeared to be following a preordained script, with many props and boosts along the way. Even the heroism he displayed was totally expected and demanded of him by his family. He had no choice. On the other hand, no one could have ever expected or predicted what Obama has achieved in pulling himself up by his own bootstraps.

The person who has demonstrated the ability to excel in both the areas of higher education and the working world wins out over anyone who has only succeeded in one of those areas. Barack Obama has done both. McCain hasn't. He finished nearly last in his class. We all know how the legacy thing works at colleges. If your family went there you're in no matter what. They probably just let him pass because of it too.
