Why does everyone think Obama can achieve world peace?

I thought he was running for the presidency OUR country...not to benefit the world. What does he think he's doing? The other countries are more screwed up than us right now. Isn't that an elitst attitude?

Because of his DECADES of foreign policy experience, meeting with international dignitaries and traveling around the world as a representative of the United States.

    Its hardly elitist.

The days when we could isolate ourselves because of our distance is long gone, If anything foreign countries are taking on the chin due to our financial problems. WE owe THEM money.

No one is talking world peace, this isn't a beauty pageant.

    Wanting world peace is unobtainable.

But a bad president of a superpower who invades other countries without reason is not good for the world or for us.

    As Bush has proved.

As far as I know, not everyone thinks that.

But Obama's chances of bring about a more peaceful world are a lot better than those of people who try to solve problems by invading countries like Iraq that never attacked us and had nothing to do with the people who did attack us.

As for the rest of your post--do you mind explaining what you are talking about. It makes no sense. I think you left something out.

..the vast majority of our next war, engagement, conflict, occupation, [what ever you want to call it] has already been laid out.

The last 8 years of foundations, architecture, details, criteria, and preparation to launch this country into the next conflict will be inherent with the new presidency, not willingly assumed, but inherent.

The best we can hope for is a global distraction..and we may well have just obtained that.

Association of 'elitist attitude' with global economic chaos is quite a stretch.

Everyone does not think that Obama can achieve world peace. My personal thoughts are very far from that belief.

Peace usually goes with the word prosperity.

What kind of a world do you want to live in? One with bombs dropping from the sky or just precipitation?

Oh, you know, all that "citizen of the world" mumbo jumbo he spit out while abroad campaigning. Hey, why was he campaigning abroad anyway?

That, and the fact that he is so awesome that everyone will lay down their arms if he asks them to.

    Make sense to u?

haven't you been listening to him. He SAYS he'll do it and he for CHANGE therefore he can AND will achieve world peace where ALL the others who have ever tried before him failed. He is, after all, the greatest thing to happen to this world.

    Please not dripping sarcasim here.

I support "that one" and I don't think he can do that. I think that he can perhaps create more peace, but I'm not naive enough to think that we can achieve total peace.
