Is George Bush the worse POTUS ever?

http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id...

Let's see....

Budget surplus turned into record deficit...

Worse foreign policy mistake in the history of the United States (Invasion of Iraq)...

Expansion of the threat of terrorism thanks to his failure to focus on Afghanistan...

Collapse of the world economies as a result of deregulation, and a culture of gain and greed at all costs...

Further division of Americans thanks to leveraging the fears of people who have cultural differences to selfish gain...

Creation of a mindset that that intellect and competence are not a requirement for leadership positions int he executive branch (despite the obvious results listed above when such a vacuum exists)...a mindset that clearly still lives (see Sarah Palin....we STILL have people who think that the most important qualification for executive leadership in our government is not the candidates understanding of the issues, or intellectual capacity to deal with them, but instead simply how "likable" the person is, and how much they are like themselves...as though THEY in fact could be POTUS themselves)

Extra question for bonus points - How long will it take to recover from them dismal abyss? can it be done in a single presidency?

I'd say Nixon was worse... but then, when he was caught people listened. Bush's lies have been shrugged off.

Here is what his own father said, about ending the first gulf war. Predicting exactly where Bush jr has taken us since: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/gulfwar.asp

Clinton had the financial stuff much better off... it is time to shift back to the Democrats for sure. It needs to START, never mind how long it takes. Get things rolling in another direction now, or dig deeper for another 4 years?

Absolutely, people have this idea that while teachers should be better educated than their students, and doctors should know more than patients about health, somehow the presidential office must be filled with some likeable, approachable down-home type rather than someone whose big words and complex arguments are out of their grasp.

I thought Reagan did a good job in helping the economy recovery by cutting taxes. But once the economy recovered, he didn't raise taxes again. Reagan showed other Republicans that deficits do not matter. Once Republicans realized this, they went on a borrowing frenzy. When George HW Bush became President, he kept borrowing. After he left office, that ended 12 years of borrowing. This took the National Debt from $1 trillion to $5 trillion. After the invasion of Kuwait, Bush had 500,000 troops ready to invade Iraq. That's four times the number of troops we have there now. Why did Bush think we needed so many more troops? Clinton had oral sex with Monica Lewinsky. He must have been desperate. But besides this scandle which kept him from governing the country the way he wanted, he did balance the budget and didn't have to touch Social Security. He attempted to bring fiscal responsibility back. The National Debt was $5.8 trillion with a budget surplus when he left the presidency. And when Clinton signed the bill that allowed commercial banks and investment banks to merge (the reason for all the banks going under), Congress was controlled by the Republicans. Commercial banks using depositors money to make questionable investments was the reason for the Great Depression. The difference today is the FDIC. Without them, the recession could be much worse. George W Bush came into the White House and went on vacation. Clinton informed Bush about Bin Laden. Bush had prior warning that Bin Laden was planning a major attack on the US. And when 9/11 happened, he was as surprised as the rest of us. Afterward, he promptly cut taxes, spent the Social Security Surplus and increased spending. He sent thousands of troops to Afghanistan to find Bin Laden with no success. After eight years in office, the National Debt went from $5.8 trillion to over $10 trillion. George W Bush has got to be the worst of these four presidents. He may even be the worst president in the history of the United States.

No, if you actually study history we have had some worse president. Like one poster said, the Federal Reserve controls the potus.

  • 1 decade ago

He may not be the very worst, as his intentions were mostly good (or so he believed), and he did build a majority consensus on much of what he did- even if it was based on mis-information.

However, he will almost certainly go down as the POTUS most damaging to America and the world.

I don't know about all that, but Bush is the worst thing that ever happened to America's image overseas. He's either sleepwalked or force marched America into more PR disasters than any other president in history.

    What difference does it make?

Both the Republicans and Democrats are puppets for the owners of the Federal Reserve and are bankrupting America. See Owen-Glass Act, 1913.

One wing promotes tax and spend. The other wing promotes small tax cuts and borrowing. Both result in bankrupting America.

People who vote either Democrat or Republican are voting for bankruptcy.

So what's the difference? That's why I'm supporting Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party for President. At least my vote will count for someone who wants fiscal sanity rather than bankruptcy for America. http://www.constitutionparty.com/
