Why do Christians who want to redefine marriage as between a man and woman only protest gay marriage?
Several times a day you'll see things like commercials where something will talk about a marriage of flavors or a marriage of minds...the perfect marriage of form and function...blah blah...
Clearly these definitions do not refer to one man and one woman, yet I have never heard them protested.
Likewise, in the less than 500 years that the word marriage has been used in the English language, it has been used to refer almost exclusively to a legal contract, even if the legal contract was not being used by Christians....why now do some English speaking Christians seek to redefine it? Especially when it's not defined as ONE man and ONE woman in the Bible.... ask Jacob.
Um...Genesis is generally considered THE BEGINNING of the Bible and it's full of Polygamy. Dante, I believe, was the one who proposed a special place in hell for people who reinterpreted the Bible.
Do people who can't read get a special place in heck, too? Also, could someone show me where in the Bible Jesus told people to submit to Roman marriage laws?

it's not like pedophilia or bestiality as those are non-consensual and abusive
incest isn't like being into the same gender either
these lies disgust me
"homosexual" was a term coined in 1869 so it can't be in the bible
same-sex marriage was practised in ancient Rome and other places according to the wikipedia link and it was christians who redefined it to suit themselves- it was christians who stopped this so that people would be following christianity's way and lies
through history homosexuals get falsely blamed for many disasters

Because they think their beliefs trump all and think their poor excuses and protests hold any weight.
Marriage is not defined by god because there is no god. Am I not really married because I don't believe in god?
Marriage is about one man and one woman, because they can have children and same sex couples can't. So people who are childless, childfree (choose not to have children), or too old to have children not permitted to marry? And you're right, there is polygamy in the Bible.
If we let the gheys marry, then people will want to marry children and animals! WRONG. the key word here is : CONSENT. Say it again...CONSENT. Children cannot consent. Animals cannot consent. Two grown men or two grown women CAN consent. Two men and three women CAN consent.
And actually, sisters and brothers and kissing cousins can consent as well. I find that a little icky, but who am I to tell two grown people in love what they can and cannot do with each other? That's not my place. And it's not the place of the government either.

I've never seen those commercials...
There is a difference between religious marriage and civil marriage.
Everyone has a legal right to be civilly married (with the marriage liscense, social security benefits, life insurance, etc. etc. whatever the legal stuff is)
But it's up to individual places of worship to decide whether or not to grant religious marriage.
I think the problem is that the fundies only think of marriage as the religious marriage and don't focus on the civil one.

Don't you know the difference between a metaphor and a definition? "Marriage of flavours" doesn't mean that flavours can get married. It is a metaphor, saying that the flavours are blended into one. "Marriage of minds" doesn't mean that minds can get married, it means that there is a mental bond between two people.
Marriage is between one man and one woman. Even in the Bible it is. Look in Genesis - God made Adam and Eve husband and wife, thus setting the pattern for marriage for humans. And the Bible says that a man should cleave to his wife - singular, not plural. While God didn't specifically forbid having multiple wives, look at all the trouble it brought. Abraham and Sarah and Hagar. Jacob and Leah and Rachel. Solomon and his ridiculous overabundance of wives. On and on. It is never portrayed in a good light, now is it? The fact that it's in the Bible doesn't mean God approves of it, it just means that it is relevant to the story that was recorded in Scripture.

Not even 50 years ago some states still had "laws" prohibiting the marriage of people of different "races" - people take time to get used to chnge of any kind...

Anybody check on how many wives King Solomon had?
Would they be offended if someone suggested that there may be a lifestyle reason that there were no female disciples?

Sorry! But marriage [in this country anyway] has always been between a man and a woman, until very recently. I think it all began in the late 60's when a man in Montana (i think) married a duck, that's right, a D-u-c-k! And It is defined as One man and One woman. Just ask Adam and Eve! It was not Adam and Steve and Eve, or Adam and Eve and Wanda, It was Adam and Eve!

What it is that you refer to is a figure of speech and not the joining together of two people.
In the Bible a Sodomite is a homosexual, and the scriptures speak very much against this ungodly practice (Rom. 1:26-28; Lev. 18:22; 20:13; Gen. 19; I Kgs. 14:24; 15:12; 22:46; 23:7; Deu. 23:17). God has never created anyone to be a sex pervert, and He has never approved of this sin.
Just because you don't believe the bible doesn't change anything.
