    Rounding to the nearest hundred means rounding from the third digit (the hundreds digit) from the decimal point.

    Thus, 5,209 is 5,200 rounded to the hundreds

    First think: What's the hundreds place?

    If you don't know your number places, here's a little explanation:

    example: 123.45

    1=hundreds

    2= tens

    3= ones

    4=tenths

    5=hundreths

    OK, now you know what the hundreds place is: 2!

    THEN, look to the number RIGHT of the 2, which is 0.

    If the number to the right is 5 or more, then you round UP. If the number is 4 or less, you round DOWN.

    In this case, you're rounding down, so you keep the 2 the same, and turn every number after 2 into zeros. So, your answer is 5,200

    Now, what if your number was 5,279 instead?

    Look at the hundreds place again: It's 2. The number next to 2 is 7. But 7 is bigger than 5! What do you do now? You round UP. So, you add a one to the 2! Again, keep all numbers after hundreds places zeros.

    Your answer is 5,300.

    Hope this helps you!
