Would you be a bigot if you complained about those who make a mockery of your religion?

by claiming to belong to your religion while openly violating the most basic, sacred tenants of your religion?

Update:

Master Shake--maybe I didn't word it right. I'm talking about the others who do these things, making a mockery of my religion. Would I be a bigot if I expressed my displeasure about them doing that?

Update 2:

Kate: Consider this hypothetical situation which I don't think exists at all, but think about it. If you are a Christian and there was an organized group who claimed to be Christian but who worshiped Satan instead of Jesus. Would you be considered a bigot if you said what they were doing was blasphemous?

Update 3:

Kate--a few more details on that hypothetical situation. You KNOW they are not a Christian group because they worship Satan but they promote themselves to non-Christian religious groups (Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc) as being a sect within Christianity. These non-Christians accuse you of being a bigot when you try to convince them that these Satan-worshipers are really not Christians. Are you bigoted or not?

Update 4:

Thanks Master Shake. But then they say you are attacking and disrespecting their beliefs. So what about their beliefs?

No, that's not a bigot. That's ok for you to not like the people who mock your religion. By saying that they are following your religion and doing the exact opposite - that's an insult to your religion. You should just ignore them, they generally don't know what they're talking about.

okay well you have to take a step back. . . I understand what your saying to a point, but your missing something very obvous.

When it comes to religion, personal opinion, politics, just about anything a human can feel connected to, they take what they're taught and make it their own so that they can understand and live/believe/think the way they feel is best. The reason we have so many different christian faiths is for this very reason: human nature. Each group who disagreed and liked their twisted on what they understood that religion to be split off from a different group they didnt agree with.

Now into day's period you have more communication across the globe (I can talk to someone down under if i wanted to), so that spreads the different ideas and outlooks faster. . .also leads to more disagreements more splits and more bickering about who is right and who is wrong.

So you have your religion, well nobody can speak against your religion because it is what you personally believe and nobod else has to believe it exactly the same way as you do. Say your a christian (i dont know the theory and idea is the same no matter what religion). . .and you believe that no matter what, you shouldnt break the "no work on the sabbit *sp* " rule. Meanwhile someone else who is also a christian of the same sect as you, believes it's okay to do light house work ect. . . they may believe the SAME THING on every other point that the religion teaches, but that point. . . So that means they're not really the same religion as you because they dont believe everything the same way that you do.

That's how human nature effects/affects religion. . . we take what we think is right from that religion and follow it, but because we say we're the same "general religion" as someone else, that doesnt mean we believe the same thing.

No, but if you are a Christian, you are actually making a mockery of your religion by pretending to know what's between them and God.

Even when it seems as though someone is completely out of touch with Christianity, Christians know that only they and God know their heart. So you would be a hypocrite, because you would be denying one of the basic tenants of your own faith.

You would be a bigot if you said something like "all idiot Baptists deny God by X", but it doesn't sound like that is what you are talking about.

Sorry, I'm sure this is not the answer you wanted, but there are so many different branches of Christianity, that slamming people for having different beliefs would be bigotry. Pretending that you understand someone else's relationship with Christ is only hypocritical.

Remember how much Christ talks about not judging others and showing our enemies love? That's what I try to focus on when I get frustrated with people.

I think there is a line to be drawn there. I think its okay for people to get insulted when other people make a mockery of their religion but I think it is a bit hypocritical when really religious people who are supposed to love everyone equally discriminate against other people because they don't have the same belief system. You have a right to be insulted but don't make generalizations abouth people of a certain faith

    no.. that's a hypocrite

a bigot is... "my religion is right and you're going to hell"

    edit:

oh... no.. you'd be defending your beliefs.. assuming you don't do anything drastic (death threats and the like)

    no

but if you say stuff like "gays are an abomination and will burn in hell" ...that is bigoted...whether its "biblical" or not

That's why we cannot be saved by the law, only by our faith.
