Have a 1998 2.5ltr turbo diesel Jeep, has anyone had any problems with power? e.g. won't go passed 2000 rpm?

diesel engines are low rpm by nature. most have a governor. if you dont have power look in another area. did you put big tires on it w/o changing diff gears? sorry i dont know any specifics re diesel jeeps but in theory they should be powerful.

my guess is the cloud of smoke is black and that the idle speed is set too low causing either a loss of oil pressure triggering the light or it to try and use more fuel to get the engine up to designed operating rpm. I would think that there would be a sticker under the hood showing the proper idle speed RPM. My suggestion is check idle speed RPM and also oil pressure at idle. The orange light is shaped like an engine because it invoves an issue with the diesel engine, wethere fuel or oil pressure.
