Which Messianic prophecies did Jesus of Nazareth fulfil during his life? Can you provide scriptures as proof ?

According to the 19th century Oxford scholar Henry Liddon, Jesus fulfilled to the letter no fewer than 332 Old Testament prophecies. 29 Messianic prophecies were fulfilled in the final 24 hours of his life alone. What are the chances of that happening by accident, I wonder?

What Old Testament Messianic prophecies do you know of that Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled and can you give the OT and NT references, please? You will be relieved to know that I don't want all 332! It would be useful to know which prophecies were fulfilled during the last 24 hours of Jesus' life. However, if you know of a web site that gives more details I would be happy to check it out.

I realise that Judaism does not accept Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah and they say there are only 23 authentic Messianic prophecies. I am about to post a separate question on that subject.

Update:

Frank - it never occurred to me to look in the back of my Bible - what a nit-wit I am! However, this is much more fun!

Update 2:

I appreciate the web-link given by cat's meow which discusses the 23 messianic prophecies in the Tanakh. Those 23 prophecies are also listed by Frau Asher. Thank you.

I also appreciate the fact that the Old Testament is not a Jewish scripture and that Jews know their faith better than anyone. That is why I asked a seperate question on the subject, but it was removed and I had to do battle with Yahoo to have it reinstated. I wonder who would want to silence questions about Jesus of Nazareth and Messianic prophecies?

answer: Not one. Despite Christian wishful thinking, mistranslations and taking verses out of context, the actual prophecies are only 23 and he didn't fulfill any of them.

*****In other words - this must all be accomplished in a human lifetime*****

    * Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4)

    * Knowledge of God will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9)

    * He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10)

    * All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12)

    * Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8)

    * There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8)

    * All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19)

    * The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11)

    * He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7)

    * Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5)

    * The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23)

    * The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55)

    * Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9)

    * The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvot

    * He will then perfect the entire world to serve God together (Zephaniah 3:9)

    * Jews will know the Torah without Study (Jeremiah 31:33)

    * He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4)

    * He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9).

You could do a web-search to find all these fulfilled prophesies. However, some bibles list them all in the back of the bible. If you asked in a bible bookshop which ones had this feature I'm sure you will find the staff very helpful. You would then have the whole list for future reference.

Most of the hundreds of messianic prophecies that Jesus supposedly fulfilled are either not prophecies, not messianic prophecies, or so general that thousands of people filled them. The only way you can get hundreds of prophecies fulfilled is to go through the Bible looking for words that sort of match and ignoring the context.

The gospel accounts were written specifically to make it sound as if Jesus was fulfilling prophecy. Look at the two accounts of his birth - Matthew and Luke get him born in Bethlehem but from Nazareth in two different and incompatible ways. Both authors were clearly inventing a story.

There are only 23 Jewish prophecies in the Tanakh, the Hebrew scriptures. To qualify as the Jewish Maschiach, a person must fulfill them all BEFORE they die. No 'second coming'.

Jesus fulfilled none of them. Nor have any of the numerous other would-be Jewish 'messiahs'.

    Ummmmm. Ummmmm. Thinking. Ummmmm.

    Nope I got nothing. Sorry.

Don't you think Jews would know if the prophecies came true. Also, the "Old Testament" is not a Jewish scripture. Is the misinterpretation of the Jewish Torah.

Please don't tell us what the prophecies were. We know what they are. We read the Torah in its original Hebrew. We know our faith better than anyone.

Actually Jesus never fulfilled any messianic prophecies.

For one the God of the old testament is not the loving Father Jesus speaks about in the gospels.

Yahweh's edict in books like Leviticus and Deuteronomy clearly define the criteria for messiahship and Jesus does not make the grade for Jesus was executed and hung from a tree which to orthodox Jews is a great insult that Christians in their blind and arrogant ignorance heve inflicted upon those of the Jewish faith.

Jesus came to awaken us from the unconsciousness that we all live in with our lack of love to each other.

Off course those Fundamentalists and Roman Catholics speak of Absolute Truth and they have married two conflicting documents together which they call the Bible to back up their Schitzophrenic religion of Intolerance.

If Absolute Truth is true then why is Divorce not condemned as opposed to Abortion?

Also we can look at Jesus telling us to," Be in the world but not of it".Thats a great idea.No politics. No wars...you get my drift.

I hope to receive loads of little thumbs down symbols. It shows that Fundamentalist Evangelical Anti-Christian Rapturists F.E.A.R. in my divine revealed language is still around in it's deep denial and intolerance and it's unholy bedfellow Roman Catholicism with it's made up mumbo jumbo rituals and pantheon of lesser super heros and upper strata of great super heros are also alive and kicking after centuries of murder and death at their hands carried out by their converts.Hypocrites!

But no Jesus was no Messiah. He was a divine teacher and Son of God and even the Jewish scriptures state that we are all sons and daughters of God which means we are our own Messiahs.I see the Old Testament has been brought out to back up the claims of those that are blind yet they have eyes.Do they not know that this book forms the basis and beliefs of Judaism.Do they not know that if this book was not included then the true Christ they love would be there for all to see and his message of love compassion and forgiveness would be their absolute truth. This bastardization and corruption of the teachings of Christ has suffered like the Jews who Christ belonged to first due to their ramshackle religion.A true Christian practices love and intolerance compassion and forgiveness in thought, word and deed. Shalom.

Here is a lot of them but there are some that are not fulfilled, such as :

    Gather all the Jews

"And he shall set up a banner for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth." (Isaiah 11:12)[25]

    The temple must be built

    The temple must be built

There is some difference of opinion on this point. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have built over 120 Temples which they strongly believe are Houses of the God. They believe that this prophecy has been fulfilled[26][27]

Rule at a time of world peace

He will rule at a time of world-wide peace - "...they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4)[28]

Rule at a time when the Jews follow God's commandments

He will rule at a time when the Jewish people will observe God's commandments - "My servant David shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall follow My ordinances and be careful to observe My statutes." (Ezekiel 37:24) [29]

Rule at a time when everybody believes in God

He will rule at a time when all people will come to acknowledge and serve one God - "And it shall come to pass that from one new moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, says the Lord" (Isaiah 66:23) [30]

    Other

    Ezekiel Chapter 37 verses 24-28:

And David my servant shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd. they shall also follow My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. And they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Yaakov my servant, in which your fathers have dwelt and they shall dwell there, they and their children, and their children's children forever; and my servant David shall be their prince forever. Moreover, I will make a covenant of peace with them, it shall be an everlasting covenant with them, which I will give them; and I will multiply them and I will set my sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore. And my tabernacle shall be with them: and I will be their God and they will be my people. Then the nations shall know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary will be in the midst of them forevermore.

All the prophecies will not be fulfilled until the end of times. All the prophecies that are filled today are the ones that were to be filled until at such time that Armageddon happens and Jesus second coming.
