The modern car was not invented in the US. However, the common use of the production line was which really helped the auto industry build cars that were affordable by the masses, not just the rich.

The first car wasn't built in America, but the first auto INDUSTRY most certainly was started here with Henry Ford's production line approach to building his cars.

Obama is confused about Henry Ford's first mass production assembly line which originated in 1903 in Detroit, Michigan.
