How long do German Shorthair pointers usually live?

    It's funny, the GSP Club of America site puts it at 10-12 years, breeders I know say the average is closer to 13-15---but I think the dog's lines really make the difference.

    When I was researching my puppy's breeder, I asked about how long his grandarents, aunts, uncles, great-aunts and uncles, and great-grandparents lived. I got back a family tree that went back to his great-grandparents and with one notable exception they all lived to at least 15. There were a couple of 17 year olds who were still alive.

    MY POINT? If you are thinking about a GSP, ask the breeders about the family tree---how old were the dogs when they died and what did they die of??

    life expectancy of a gsp is 12 -15 years.

    I really don't know their life expectancy, but I have some friends that have a 12 year old solid liver female that still hunts fowl.
