Are Mortgage-Backed Securities Dead?

Will investors want to buy them in the future?

If not, how can the mortgage markets recover?

Besides treasluries, GNMAs are the only thing I have that are up this year.

Ginnie Mae funds are doing quite well. In my portfolio, only Vanguard's ginnie mae's are in positive territory. SIVs, CDOs are dead - GNMA funds backed by the government are doing quite well.

How can mortgage markets recover?? Possibly the individuals this mortage money is being lent to, should be checked to make sure they have the ability to repay the money that is being loaned to them. Radical idea I know.

Jeez, was there anyone that didn't realize that loaning money to people that didn't have 'a chance in hell of ever paying it back' was not a good idea?? My god, they could have hired me, & for a few hundred thousand dollars(in salary), and I could have told them this.

I just checked a T Rowe Price GNMA fund the other day and it was still doing pretty good.
