Who Would Colin Powel Vote For?

Lets ask him:

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will break with his party and vote for Sen. Barack Obama. "He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure," Powell said on NBC's Meet the Press.

"I come to the conclusion that because of his ability to inspire, because of the inclusive nature of his campaign, because he is reaching out all across America, because of who he is and his rhetorical abilities -- and you have to take that into account -- as well as his substance -- he has both style and substance," Powell said. "He has met the standard of being a successful president, being an exceptional president."

Powell noted that McCain has been a good friend for 25 years, but expressed disappointment in the "over the top" negative tone of the GOP campaign, as well as in McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the vice presidential nominee.

What do you think?

Update:

Here are some previous posts on the subject.

Update 3:

The responses so far is the exact reason I posted past Y!Answers re: Powell.

SO MUCH respect was extended, no one would have thought to write such smears - UNTIL - he cast his support for Obama.

What short memories you have.

I thought Republicans didn't follow their leaders or candidates blindly. Yet for years they've been gushing about Powell's capabilities and smarts. Now when Powell made a choice that they don't agree with, they act like spoiled, sullking brats. Look guys, Powell looked at the issues. He didn't look at smears or which person is friends with whom, he looked at what both candidates can do. And a team that says they have to "go negative" in order to win...well, that makes no sense. If Obama was a terrorist, he'd be under investigation not running for President. Also look at Obama's choice for VP and McCain's. McCain rarely talks about any issues. He and Sarah Palin spend the times when the media focuses on them name-calling and launching immature attacks on Obama. Obama has already decided to put aside these infantile games and focus on helping the American people. That's why he's ahead. Americans are tired of being lied to, kept out of the loop and kept in the poorhouse. And no, Powell didn't vote due to his race. There were many times he could have over the years in different elections throughout the country, but he was always careful to sound neutral. I don't agree with some of Powell's views, but at least he admits that he made mistakes, he and his party aren't perfect and that the issues are what matters not how you look or what lies your opponent can dream up to define you as.

A black man with a long military service and having not only served under three WHITE Presidents, and ENDORSED a WHITE presidential candidate in his successful bid (2000), decides he'd rather go with Obama. He becomes a racist and a traitor? How convenient for them.

I think it's obvious that Powell's making up excuses because he knows he can't say the real reason he's betraying his party and friend for Obama is Obama's race. Affirmative action made Powell a general and Secretary of State, now he feels affirmative action should make Obama president.

I'm a registered Democrat, by the way.

Edit: Yeah, right, here's one you forgot:

i might. a minimum of he had the balls to tell the fact while asked...even while his adviser tried combating him. i in my view thought that he went into the region to objective to guard those under him. He left as quickly as he observed that those loonies weren't going to hearken to him.

Powell went with his race over his conservative views and over a 25 year career where Republicans supported him...I have never mentioned him before this question and I am hardly surprised...

Powell has been waiting silently to see how the election is going and when and who would be the one to throw his support to for his own personal gains.

This does not mean Powell is a bad person he is simply doing what is in his best interest. He knows better than anyone how to play those politicians and certainly can not be faulted for it.

Colin Powell stated what many people - on both sides of the campaign - have felt for weeks ans weeks. It's just not time to vote for an old, crotchety man who doesn't seem in touch with the heart of America. He might think he is, but his actions and statements - and his emotions - have painted him as a high risk to stability and peace for America's future.
