Are you Republican or Democrat?

I wonder if people really know what their party stands for. Let's get down to the basics, read a few lines of this website and comment on what you really stand for.

Update:

I'm still trying to find a base definition for each. I like the first answer so far.

From what I can find a republican person is a self supporter. A democrat would rather pay the tax and let the government provide for them.

And for the people who think that parties divide the people, you are dividing it more by wanting to be on your own.

I agree that just because you are democrat you don't have to believe in everything they stand for. Those details are not in the definition of the party, that is why I am looking for a good definition of each party.

Show me a link to a basic definition.

Your question is precisely the reason why there is no real democracy in America. Why should people be stuck to only 2 political parties? I don't want to be either, I am an independent. How can a country that promotes democracy in the world only has 2 main parties? It's ridiculous; we need more and stronger political forces. Peace.

This isn't a website aimed at helping voters decide on issues. It's a Republican website with an obvious agenda. It's right there in the address- svGOP.com.

Why don't you change the name of this question to "Are you gullible enough to be fooled by this transparent sham?"

    And I am an independent.

Registered independent however lean to the left. I don't like political parties, George Washington was opposed to them and so am I because he knew it was going to tear the nation apart, which it has.

But the thing about political parties, just because your a Dem. doesn't mean you have to lean completely to the left, same goes for republicans but leaning to the right. Like my parents-dems but are against abortion and gay marriage. You don't have to believe EVERYTHING just to be apart of the party.

I'm afraid of looking at anonymous websites for insight into politics.

Republicans believe in a Republic of states where states have as much, if not more power than the federal government.

Democrats believe in a federal Democracy.

Republicans are typically conservative meaning they value tradition and morality over liberty.

Democrats are typically liberal and they value individual liberty over tradition and morality.

I am not registered with either party, but I've always voted Democratic for moral reasons.
