ATI 4870 series vs. My OC'ed NVIDIA 9800 GT?

How much of a performance increase would we see if I replaced my OC'ed PNY 9800GT [core@650MHz, memory@950MHz, shader@1620MHz] versus any of the ATI Radeon 4870's? ATI's 4000 series seems like a pretty powerful line of graphics cards.

System Specs:

INTEL CORE 2 QUAD 9300@2.5GHz

6GB DDR2 RAM

400 WATT PSU [might have to upgrade this?]

If you can afford a 4870 buy one. I personally like my ASUS 4870 because it comes with a utility on the driver disk that has a fan speed controller. That way you don't have to fool with the Catalyst Control Center profile fix that is very complicated. The ASUS I have has not been on newegg for a month or so, and the one they have now isn't as sexy as mine, it dosen't have the cover with a picture on it, but it is the same card...

If you have the full $300, they have the 1gig of graphic memory, on the cards now. The 512mb cards are $50 less now, but they started out at $300 2 months ago...

About your PSU, I have a ASUS P45 motherboard, q6600, Asus 4870, Western Digital 320hd and 1 DVDwriter 2-120mm case fans and a 92mm fan in my case and I did a power usage test that said I was using 330W. Mind you I have a 650W, only because the 4870 takes 2-6pin connectors for power. My old 585W PSU didn't have any 6pin connectors so I was going to have to use 4 of my 4pin molex connectors for powering the 4870 and I was afraid that using that much power off of 2 rails was going to cut my performance. The 585W did work for a week, and had no problems but I changed PSU's just for the heck of it... It is your call, but I would get one with 2 6pin connectors if I spent the money on one...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRev... This is a good choice if you want to upgrade, I really recommend you doing so soon after you get your new card...

confident, you're able to decide for 4870 ATI because of fact it particularly is plenty speedier and might actually help maximum video games that are popping out. 7600 gt is only no longer waiting to push the settings to the shrink, whilst 4870 will.
