How do you repair nicad batteries?

Repairing a battery is impractical. Repairing a battery pack can be done if:

1) You can open the pack without too much damage so you can put it back together again.

2) You can connect the batteries in the same configuration that they were in originally, soldering the connections and things like that.

It's a lot of work. I've done it a couple of times and wasn't happy with the results. I've found it to be more cost effective to buy a new battery pack.
