Baptism for the remission of sins?
Baptism: Is a person saved before or after Baptism?
I have two sisters and 1 brother. Two of us are church of Christ and the other 2 are Bapist. This is causing a problem because we disagree on the subject of Baptism. I need a little help understanding the Baptist Doctrine.

I think part of the confusion comes in with the subject of baptism, because I believe there is a spiritual aspect to baptism, and a ceremonial aspect to baptism.
The baptism that saves us is becoming identified with Jesus Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. When we hear the message of the Gospel preached in the power of the Holy Spirit, we become convinced of our own sin, realizing our lost condition, and we reach out in faith by believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins - for your sin, for my sin, and we take hold of the promise of forgiveness of sins through His sacrifice on the cross. When we believe with our heart, we then confess faith with our mouth, and we are saved. We thus become identified with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. Having then experienced acceptance from God and knowing our sins are forgiven, we then declare this to the world by water baptism, in which we declare to the world that the old "me" died when Jesus died, and was buried, and a new "me" was raised with Him when He was raised from the dead. This new "me" no longer lives by my power, but by the resurrection power of Jesus Christ which has come into my heart through the Holy Spirit.
In some ways I think you can liken it to marriage.
It is not the ceremony that creates the relationship - but the relationship being what it is, the ceremony is declaring to the world your relationship - in marriage, to your spouse; in baptism, to your Lord.

Repentance and water baptism was a requirement of the nation of Israel. It is not required in the present dispensation of grace.
The book of Ephesians 4:5 states that there is one baptism. The baptism spoken of here is when, at the point of believing in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, the Holy Ghost baptizes you into the Body of Christ church. This is the ONLY baptism that makes a difference. Water baptism only manages to get you wet. Read it for yourself. In fact, Paul taught that Christ sent him NOT to baptize, but to preach the gospel of grace, according to the Mystery of God, which was revealed to Paul by the risen Jesus Christ.

baptism for the remission of sins...this IS what the bible says:
Act 2:38
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Is a person saved before or after? Depends on the religion and the person. Some accept God into their hearts (start living their lives by God/Jesus teachings before they are baptized. Some do not take this step until after they are baptized (some churches baptize very young).

First salvation then baptism.
"he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5
"Baptism is the sign or the symbol for what takes place when one is born again. Baptism’s importance should not be downplayed or minimized. However, baptism does not save us. What saves us is the cleansing work of the Holy Spirit, when we are born again and regenerated by the Holy Spirit "

check the bible on this, the answers are all there. the baptism is a SYMBOL of our beliefs. it would take a very cruel God to send people to hell who have never been baptized but yet have received Him in their heart. there are also NO examples anywhere in the bible that talks about baptizing children. it should be a choice and one of the next steps in faith. notice when John announced about being baptized it was "repent and be baptized". not the other way around. we should have repented and received Him in our hearts before we are baptized, thus making us saved before we ever hit the water. remember "it is by GRACE that you are saved...NOT BY WORK" and baptism is clearly a "work".

well Jesus said that no man unless he was born of water AND the spirit can see the kingdom of God. Even Jesus required it of Himself to be baptized by immersion. And then commanded that others than be baptized. so you tell me? personally i am going take Jesus words and examples as what I should be doing in my life, over what some pastor has decided and interpreted as the way things should be so that as little effort as possible is required of us. people want you to believe that all you have to do is wake up one day and accept Jesus in your heart and you are set for life. When everything that Jesus has ever taught contradicts that. so then why do people buy into it? because it's easy. people like easy. have their cake and eat it to. get to do whatever you want, and you are still saved...sorry. it doesn't work that way. Christ never taught that principle anywhere in the bible. in fact quite the contrary. We are saved of our sins through Christ's atoning sacrifice and crucifixion. But we must exercise faith and understanding of His teachings and FOLLOW His example. to follow requires action. baptism by immersion is where one is washed of their previous sins and is the first of the principles that Christ taught as a requirement to enter into the kingdom of God. says so in the bible.
Source(s): not baptist or church of christ- but this is my understanding of the importance of baptism ( i am not sure what baptists or church of christ teaches on the matter) - 1 decade ago
If you look up the Church of Christ then you will see that there are 5 steps to salvation. The final step is the Baptism (baptism of the holy spirit). This is your final step to total salvation.

Romans 6 talks about baptizing. We can think about the man that was on the other cross beside of Jesus that was saved. He was not baptized.
There is about two paragraphs on this web site about this topic. check it out.

Person is saved only after baptism. If you are not baptized, you cannot see God's face, but you can go to heaven.
Through baptism, the first sin that our greatest ancestors (Adam and Eve) commit by touching the apple and biting it. They fell for the temptation of evil and their sin passed through generation and generation.
